New gun law widens permit holders' rights

Under Iowa's new weapons permit law -- starting in 2011 -- a person with a permit could openly walk down Central Avenue with a shotgun slung in a holster across his back.
Plymouth County Sheriff Mike Van Otterloo, explaining the changes to Iowa's permit laws, said such a situation would be legal, but not likely.
Those could include restrictions like being valid for concealed carry only or valid for handguns only or not valid while using or consuming alcohol or illegal drugs, according to the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
The law going into effect in 2011 removes that ability to put any kind of restrictions on nonprofessional permits to carry weapons.

11. In Texas it is legal to carry a fully loaded long arm openly.

The open carrying of long guns is generally allowed in Texas. However, Texas Penal Code Annotated § 42.01(a)(8) prohibits the display of a firearm in a public place in a “manner calculated to alarm.”

"Calculated to alarm" by whom? The only person who could have made that "calculation" is the bearer, and absent mind-reading abilities, the best a LEO can do is ask him "Did you intend to cause alarm on the part of other members of the public, sir?" to which he will presumably answer "No, officer, I did not."

A champion of the Second Amendment is vowing to exercise his constitutional rights by parading around Bicentennial Mall with a loaded AK-47 assault pistol slung across his back, but even fellow gun advocates are denouncing his behavior as a foolish publicity stunt.

The man identified by police as Leonard Embody, 37, already has caused a stir by donning miliary garb and going for a walk with his weapon at Radnor Lake State Park last weekend. Alarmed hikers alerted rangers, who detained Embody and questioned him in the parking lot. He showed them his state permit to carry a handgun, and he eventually was released without charges once police determined his weapon is a pistol and not a rifle.

But it's hard to make stupid illegal...

In ohio, people being alarmed by your openly carrying a firearm is not cause for arrest.
As long as the person carrying the firearm is behaving 100% legally, they cannot "incite panic".
Grnted, you can't brandish he firearm... that alone would be against the law.
But you can wear one.

18. Ga now has very little restrictions on carrying.

They abolished the public gathering limit. No more 1000 ft school rule. Can carry in your auto anywhere since it is an extension of your domicile.

Can carry in bars and can consume alcohol.

Can carry open or concealed but cannot "flash".

Two counties have laws on the books that say every home is required to have a gun. (not enforsed)

A carry permit is easy to obtain and requires no training.
