Two teens bound over on armed robbery, felony firearm
Calm and collected, a Flint homeowner Monday described shooting and killing a teenager who he says pulled a gun on him in his driveway.
"He slid over the hood of the car with a mask on his face a gun in hand and he said, 'Mother******, give it up,'" the homeowner said.
Police say that teen, 17-year-old Willis Arrington, and two others were trying to rob him. The two surviving teenagers were charged.

Those two, who are just 16 and 17 years old, were bound over to circuit court as adults on two counts of armed robbery and one count of felony firearm. One of them is Arrington's brother.

They were also shot Aug. 4.

Sounds to me like 3 goblins had trouble with their victim selection process.
One dead, two wounded, the home owner grazed in the leg.

However I wonder why the surviving goblins aren't charged with the death of the third?

1. Depends on the state. Some states felony murder excludes co-conspirators.
you and me rob a bank. We accept the danger willingly. You get killed = no felony murder charge for me.
vs.
you and me rob a bank. Bystander doesn't accept the risk/danger. He/she gets killed = felony murder charge for all co-conspirators.

Felony murder varies significantly by state.

2. Tragic, but not as tragic as if the homeowner would have been seriously hurt or killed. (n/t)

4. Do we really need to use the term "goblins" to refer to wayward youth?
I'm a big pro-RKBA person, but don't you think the term "goblin" is a bit dehumanizing?

I can only imagine what socioeconomic factors might have gone into making these kids (and yes, they are kids) resort to armed robbery.

I know, I know... getting shot is an "occupational hazard" for that line of "work", but I just don't see the point in making them out to be animals. I'm sure a lot of rationalizing went into their thought process before they set out to commit their crimes.

I just think its sad that anyone ended up dead over what was apparently an attempted property crime at best. While I can't say what I'd do in such an armed robbery situation, I would only hope the perpetrators survived so that they could be prosecuted in a court of law.

I just think "street justice" should never be glamorized. That's all.

6. When a person starts to commit violent felonies against others, it is a bit more than wayward youth.
The perps were also armed and clearly willing to shoot. What they are called colloquially afterward seems of little consequence.

8. Stop making excuses for violent predatory criminals.
I can only imagine what socioeconomic factors might have gone into making these kids (and yes, they are kids) resort to armed robbery.

There is no excuse. They made their own decisions. There are lots more people in the exact same conditions who have not become criminals.

5. Someone asked if there was a documented case of needing more than 10 rds to defend oneself?

Here you go. He emptied his 12 round magazine to stop three dangerous criminals who attacked him.

Or maybe it was a 30 round mag, but nevertheless recent legislation would have potentially limited new gun and magazine purchasers from anything more than 10 rounds. Fortunately, that bill is dying a slow death.
