1. The concept behind gun ownership is for citizens to be able to have the same weapons as a government
Edited on Sun Aug-22-10 03:58 PM by RandomThoughts
Although weapons are really just tools, unfortunately the gunpowder guns usually hurt people.

But guns have nothing to do with the concept.

The concept is for the citizens to be able to form groups with the same tools that government has, it is a concept of decentralized power, so that if power were to consolidate in a totalitarian way, there would be a push back.

So if government can spy on your communications, civilian oversight should do the same to government. Or if government pushes some PR, then citizens should have the same right.

And note, government includes private sector groups, since the private sector is a form of government also.

So if government uses anti protester weapons that can disperse a thousand with a couple of people, then civilians get the same thing.

The idea is not about guns at all, but about concepts of decentralization, during a time when guns were the common use of power control. Although some might think it about guns, and from that concept an armed citizenry makes sense.

I think it is about right to bear arms. Which is a form of requirement for justice from wounds from any battles fought, although the form in that Shakespeare speech was rewards of people knowing who was on the line and who was not.

Henry V - Speech.

Note that herald wanted to buy something, and did not give as a gift, I like the way it is said in Braveheart as said by Wallace, take your gold and disperse it to all the people that have been wronged, and ask for there forgiveness, and as a simple citizen, that includes me, but not as a price for something, but as a gift.

6. could be...BUT..
From our experiences with the "other side" down here, watching them make fools of themselves on TV, and listening to their blithering in the Virginia State House, and at gun control "events" held at Virginia Tech. It is hard to tell if it is satire, or if he really is that stupid.

For example..

10. The truly sad part is that this individual is typical of many Brady Campaign members ...
He is VERY emotional and VERY uninformed.

He does show why it is so important to research both sides of an issue and learn a little about the subject before you make a decision to support one side. Still you have to be open minded enough to reconsider your position, if someone presents a good argument against it.

The video is well worth watching for members of both sides of the RKBA issue. Obviously, the pro-RKBA will find this video humorous. Those who oppose RKBA might watch the video and see why their movement has failed. Logic, facts and emotion can form the foundation for a powerful movement that can sweep a country (such as "shall issue" concealed carry). A movement based on emotion alone, unsupported by either facts or logic but supported only by lies and untruth and tears will eventually fail.

The poster of this video stated that he had done some research on the Brady Campaign and the VPC web sites. Those who support the views of these web sites might be advised to contact those sites and politely explain that they need to educate their members on some basic facts about firearms and gun control, so as to avoid making them look like total fools. They can use the video as an example of why this should be done.

At about a minute into the rant the posters says,

"If you are a hunter, there is no need to use a machine gun sniper rifle to hunt deer. Give me a break, give me a break! Don't you think shooting 320 rounds on average a second is a little excessive when your are hunting deer?"

Any research at all would have shown this outstanding product of our failing educational system that it's illegal to hunt deer with fully automatic rifles and that the rate of fire is nowhere near 320 rounds a second on a typical machine gun.

I'm glad to have had the chance to watch the video and I plan to forward to all my shooting friends for their laugh of the day.

21. 320 rounds a second, wow!
Even our fastest gatling guns don't do that. You need one of those Metal Storm things to get that rate of fire.

I also LOVE the sniper rifle comment. It is regular entertainment from these people.

The difference between a sniper rifle and a hunting rifle is what you're shooting at.

31. I would hate to have a 320 round per second auto rifle in my hands ...
If the weapon had even a minor caliber, the recoil would knock you off your feet and you might lose control and kill yourself or any bystanders within range, front, right left or behind.

30. I base my views on several things...
Edited on Sun Aug-22-10 10:33 PM by spin
One, of course, is his video rant. Two is the list of the other videos he has posted. Three is the fact that many of same misconceptions that I have read in the Gungeon are by people who oppose RKBA.

Many posters here have expressed the view that the "assault weapons ban" banned fully automatic rifles rather than semi-auto rifles. They also have often wondered why hunters wanted to hunt with machine guns. Many posters here have confused those who legally carry concealed with those who illegally carry concealed and attempted to accuse people with concealed carry permits as being criminals or individuals with a desire to kill someone for kicks and grins. More than just a few have claimed that the only purpose of a firearm is to kill.

I personally don't believe that all anti-RKBA supporters are as misinformed as this poster. If I did so, you would be correct in accusing me of stereotyping. Those who oppose gun ownership or who wish to impose draconian regulations on firearms often present coherent well thought out arguments. You will note that the title of my reply was "The truly sad part is that this individual is typical of many Brady Campaign members" emphasis added Nowhere did I say All Brady Campaign members or All who oppose RKBA are uneducated in the basics of the subject.

Unfortunately those who do research on the Brady Campaign and VPC websites often come away with serious misconceptions that the pro-PKBA posters in the Gungeon have to refute over and over. It frustrates anyone who is looking for a good challenging debate when your opponent lacks ANY serious basic knowledge of the topic. It also does little to advance any good ideas that the gun control advocates might have. Perhaps both sides of the issue could actually work together if both sides respected each other, but it's difficult when only one side appears to understand the basic terminology.

I could compare attempting to have a good discussion on the issue of gun control with many supporters or members of the Brady Campaign with a scientist attempting to have a discussion on the history of our planet with a individual who had been convinced by a religion that the earth was only 6000 years old and mankind co-existed with dinosaurs.

Just in passing, I am not a racist which your following comment insinuated.

"Scuse me while I get my birkenstocks on, so I can go have some chicken and watermelon with my black neighbor, mmm mmmm good." .

I support firearm ownership for qualified members of all races, genders and religions. I have posted many times in the Gungeon about the importance of firearms in the civil rights movement and the racist history of gun control.

edited to add further comment.
