1. And the first one I look at if from a local news broadcast! LOL
Looks like all those links are from newspapers or TV news. You say we won't see them on the news? Maybe what you want is a 24/7 guns are great channel?

15. I hear about gun owners defending themselves frequently. Local news and
sometimes on cable or other mass media. We don't see every one, every day but we don't see every murder either. I guarantee you that if a gun owner plugs a burglar anywhere near where I live, it will be on the local news and in the paper. It probably won't be on FOX News and they certainly aren't biased against gun owners.
For news people, it's not their job to report anyones favorite story every day. MSNBC had Keith Olbermann quit over having to cover Monica Lewinsky every day, even when there really wasn't any new information coming out. The same thing happened to The New Republic. Their editor quit because he was being forced to run Vince Foster conspiracy theory's every issue.
The fact that you came up with those proves that the information is out there for anyone that goes looking. What you want, is to have it all shown to everyone else every day, to convince them of your point of view. It's like people that think they are being persecuted because their kid can't pray in school. They can take their kid to church and teach them all the religion they want, and they know that. What they want is to have other peoples kids indoctrinated

17. No not really.
I don't want the all guns news 24/7.

I think one of the reasons the general public has a fear of guns, is because of what they see on the news. The vast majority of the time the "gun" appears in the news, it is when a criminal is using the firearm. The issue that I have is let's say a woman is raped, then shot by her attacker. If she was a white, well to do person, chances are pretty good that you will see it in the national news. But if that same woman is raped, however she shoots her attacker, odds are it would not be national news. There are many, many levels of bias in the news.

How many times have you seen on the national news a story about a missing or kidnapped average black woman? How about an average white woman? The same mechanisms are at work. Missing black woman = local news, missing white woman = national news. It's just the simple fact that missing white women equals higher ratings.

In all honesty I doubt the national media will consistently shed light on the good uses of firearms. It's just not in the ratings. So instead the media will continue to perpetuate fear. But they do that with everything. Did you ever notice while watching any of the major national news networks that every, little, thing, no matter what it is, is an ALERT! Fox is of course the best at it, but CNN, MSNBC, etc... Are all in a close second.

21. Female, white, young, blonde, pretty, missing = 24/7 coverage
And the tabloids will run stories on it for months, even years.

Female, young, black, pretty, missing = no coverage at all. Same for Latinas and Asians.

6. Might we move back onto the topic of the OP?
I want to take a moment and apologize about the misleading subject of the OP. I did note in the OP why I edited it, and what it did and now says.
Again, I am sorry for the misleading subject. It was a gross oversight on my part.

This was a story that was covered nationally. I watched it on MSNBC.

Have you ever heard of Brenden McKown? His story was not national news.

But we all did hear about Dominick Maldonado

10. You are ignoring the point.
Crazy people = national news.
People acting in self defense = little to no coverage.

Did you bother to read those stories? Yes I am well aware that they are quite a few years old. Crazy guy shoots up mall, death, screams, people shot up and some of them dead. No mention of why he stopped shooting. Could you explain to me why?

16. Crazy people make news when they shoot up malls and schools.
People defending themselves.......what's the news there? People defend themselves and their propery all the time.

It's no more "news" that reporting a person painted their house or washed their car.

18. Ok as long as you are happy with that level of bias.
If you are content with ratings based bias, that is ok.

But guns aside, self defense aside, is ratings based bias ok in our national news? Is it ok with you that no matter what news network you are watching, you will only get one side of the story?

11. Can you shorten this list to those stories in which someone with a gun didn't start the trouble?
I know it's a shorter list. Give it up.

24. It could be that "national news" is headquartered in places ...
like NYC, Washington Dc, LA, Atlanta. With the exception of Atlanta, these are primarily areas that are gun unfriendly.

The majority of these stories come from the firearm friendlier heartland, Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Memphis, Shreveport etc.
