2. Shooting beer cans off fence posts at the ol' FBI Academy during lunch breaks?

5. Actually, this rifle could shoot beer TRUCKS off fence posts.
I'm taking a little poetic license with the imagery, of course. It is one big-assed peashooter.

3. I'm curious about the camo finish requirements.
Why do they need Belgian camo in particular for one, and Navy camo for the other?

8. Yeah, Belgian camo?
I mean, this Belgian camo?

I speak from personal experience when I say it's not a very good camouflage pattern. For reasons unclear to me, the Belgian armed forces picked colors not actually found in nature, and the pattern doesn't conceal very well at all. At least, not in north-western Europe.

Why anyone other than the Belgians would want it is entirely beyond me.

4. Ah, ah, ahhh....
Remember, there is no "need" qualification. Even the FBI has to have happy fun time.

17. There's no "need" qualification for private citizens
There most certainly is for government agencies, given that they aren't spending their own money; they're spending the money we pay in taxes that the government uses to safeguard and promote the common weal.

6. Holy Crap!
Whatever they are hunting, I don't think they plan on getting very close. 5,000m~3 miles range. And training/tracer ammo is out of stock?:wtf:

When these things hit the streets, gangbanger fashions are going to oversize like you'd never believe.

does not need a concealed weapon.

14. Why only two?
With only two, they won't have one where they need it, if they ever actually need it. It would have to be flown in from where ever it is stored, likely several states away, to the action site.

To have it actually usable, they would have to have a few dozen, scattered around the country.

I think they just want to do some testing.

15. Why go to 20mm when they already found they weren't "man enough" to handle 10mm...
and had to adopt the .40 Short & Wimpy instead?

19. That is way more firepower than would be need for any civilian vehicles.
Local law enforcement keeps a 50 or two for that. I saw video of the local SWAT team taking out an 18 wheeler a few years ago. They poped a couple of rounds into the block and it died instantly. They had to wait for the truck to move out of populated areas before using the 50. I am not sure that using a 20 mm bazooka in a populated area is ever a good idea. I would not want to be on the business end of that thing.

21. This is likely for anti-armor.
Feed it some DU tracer rounds and you can shoot through just about anything.
Tank, armored truck, bulldozer, Buildings, Helicopters, Limpballs... anything.

I would personally LOVE to own a suppressed 20mm.
People are always saying, "You nuts really think your 2A will protect you from your gov't?!?"
Well, if we all had 20mm Sniper cannons - then yes.

Druggies are buying very well armored vehicles these days. Lots of kevlar and lexan.

I'm just thinking out loud here.

20. I wonder who they will contract for the 20mm suppressors... no company makes one that I know.
Edited on Thu Dec-03-09 07:53 AM by OneTenthofOnePercent
Biggest cans I've seen are AAC's Cyclops for 50BMG... supposedly ultra impressive performance wise.
I imagine a 20mm would have to be a custom one-off job by one of the larger manufacturers. ($$$)

For reference, the AAC Cyclops (.50cal) is $3000, over 12" long, 2.5" in diameter, and weighs 4lbs 15oz. :wow:
Talk about a crew-serviced sniper rifle.
And the FBI wants a Friggen 20mm can??? HOLY SHIT. I'll bet it's $5000 with a muzzle brake mount... easily.
I'll bet they toss a scope worth a few grand on each one as well.

25. The same company that makes the rifles
According to the Anzio Iron Works page linked to in the OP, they'll sell you the suppressor with the rifle for an additional $3,200.

27. I'm willing to bet a suppressor company could provide a better product.
IE: The AAC Cyclops is rated "hearing safe".
Yeah, it's a probably going to be a few thousand more, but money appears to be no issue for government agencies.

So they took the standard gun enthusiast position: "Get both!"

29. "Lead, damn it, lead!"
What was stenciled onto the 20mm auto cannons of at least one WW II battleship, to better instruct gunners on how to shoot at Japanese aircraft.
