CBS - Ammo Companies Can't Keep Up With Demand
I have a good stockpile so I haven't bought for about 2 months - did seem to be easing a bit in July in my area - how's the supply where you are? I hope these dumbass hoarders are just about done or running out of money.

Bullet-makers are working around the clock, seven days a week, and still can't keep up with the nation's demand for ammunition.

Shooting ranges, gun dealers and bullet manufacturers say they have never seen such shortages. Bullets, especially for handguns, have been scarce for months because gun enthusiasts are stocking up on ammo, in part because they fear President Barack Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress will pass antigun legislation - even though nothing specific has been proposed and the president last month signed a law allowing people to carry loaded guns in national parks.

Gun sales spiked when it became clear Obama would be elected a year ago and purchases continued to rise in his first few months of office. The FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System reported that 6.1 million background checks for gun sales were issued from January to May, an increase of 25.6 percent from the same period the year before.

-----

"We are working overtime and still can't keep up with the demand," said Al Russo, spokesman for North Carolina-based Remington Arms Company, which makes bullets for rifles, handguns and shotguns. "We've had to add a fourth shift and go 24-7. It's a phenomenon that I have not seen before in my 30 years in the business."

-----

Demand has been so heavy at some Walmarts, a limit was imposed on the amount of ammo customers can buy. The cutoff varies according to caliber and store location, but sometimes as little as one box - or 50 bullets - is allowed.

It should be a photo of ANY right-wing asshole that claims "Obama's gunna take yer guns away." They're the REAL salesmen.

3. Yep this really sucks. Morons
buying up all the supply and putting it in their closets make it difficult for those of us who make regular range trips and consume 500 - 1000 rounds a month.

4. So there are more guns, more gun owners, and more ammo in private hands
than there were last year.

I assume then that blood is finally starting to run in the streets?

Come on, we were promised!

6. I think its much better
A few months ago it was really bad, but I think its better now. I bought 1,000 rounds for an AR-15 and although it was a bit more than a year ago, there are plenty in stock.

and the owner had a fair selection of many different calibers of ammo. He said the shortage seemed to be easing some.

8. I saw Lake City 5.56...
on sale recently. That's the first in a long time. It's still a bit expensive but at least some is hitting the market.

I'll grab a thousand rounds or so when it comes down a bit more.

12. CBS seems to be just a little slow.
The problem is starting to get better now. Every other news outlet covered this months ago. The problem started years ago.

14. Owner of Austin, TX gun shop says demand will let up in 2 months...
He also said the biggest problem (esp. for re-loaders) is the unavailability of primers. At the Academy Sports & Outdoors "big box," .38s and .357s are in fair supply, but the price is up 40% from last year. The squeeze on handgun cartridges has affected rifle rounds as well; I have been forced to drop my Hornady loads in favor of factory Remington .270s because the price has gone up here as well. Shotgun shells aren't too bad. Since I stocked up two years ago at $3.29/box for #8s, I'm unaffected so far.

15. 7.62x39mm case lots are finally available again at (more or less) reasonable prices.
I see $259/1K for Wolf 8M3 124gr JHP, shipping included. Although I wish I had bought way more than I did when it was $99/1K in the early 2000's. After the price spikes and availability concerns in 2005, I kept waiting for prices to go back down, but the sinking dollar and rising commodities prices, and the tight supply, kept prices moving up.

16. The truth is at this link.
http://thelongestlistofthelongeststuffatthelongestdomainnameatlonglast.com/trivia74.html

Granted there are some shortages do to a couple of wars going on right now but most of this is simply panic driven. Shooters are having trouble getting ammo because the non shooters are stocking up on amounts that the never before kept on hand just because it's hard to get.
