Oregon lawmakers: close handgun records

SALEM, Ore. — The Oregon House has overwhelmingly approved a bill to limit public release of information about concealed handgun permit holders.
The measure was endorsed Monday after supporters said making that information public would jeopardize the personal safety of concealed handgun permit holders.
The issue came up after news organizations and others sought to obtain lists of people with those permits.
Under the bill, gun permit information would be exempt from disclosure under Oregon's open records law unless someone can make a compelling case that the public interest would be served by opening it. Local sheriffs would decide on a case-by-case basis...
