I know everyone says there will be no future ban BUT
Has the Obama team addressed this comment made in 2007:

"My first priority will be to reinstate the assault weapons ban as soon as I take office. Within 90 days, we will go back after kitchen table dealers, and work to end the gun show and internet sales loopholes. In the first year, I intend to work with Congress on a national no carry law, 1 gun a month purchase limits, and bans on all semi-automatic guns."

- Barack Obama, VPC Fund Raiser, 2007

20. Same here
...so I assume it's Right-Wing-propogated BS. That's usually the case, anyway.

FWIW, I am buying a shotgun this year, a rifle next, and have precisely ZERO concerns that a professor of Constitutional Law will take them away.

5. Obama has several statements in his past that he needs to recant if he wants to convince 80+ million
gun-owners that he will not sign a new AWB.

One such statement is from the Illinois Senate Debate #3: Barack Obama vs. Alan Keyes Oct 21, 2004:
OBAMA: Let's be honest. Mr. Keyes does not believe in common gun control measures like the assault weapons bill. Mr. Keyes does not believe in any limits from what I can tell with respect to the possession of guns, including assault weapons that have only one purpose, to kill people. I think it is a scandal that this president did not authorize a renewal of the assault weapons ban.

6. I Believe it's BS...
I searched far and wide once I heard of this and have not been able to find ANY credible source verifying Barack delivered such a statement. It's always "VPC Fund Raiser". That's just not good enough for me, but unfortunately a lot of folk are running wild with this.

10. VPC receives much of its funding from the Joyce Foundation. Obama was a director of the Foundation
from 1994 to 2002. As a board member, he approved funding for VPC with its goals to ban handguns and semiautomatic firearms misnamed assault weapons.

23. Obama was a member of the board of directors for Joyce, i.e he was one of the directors.
You can learn more about Joyce's board at, http://www.joycefdn.org/AboutUs/Staff.aspx

9. I hope he keeps this promise.
Gun people won't be happy until they can walk down to the 7 11 and buy a fucking bazooka.
All reasonable people favor much STRONGER regulation the we have now.

12. I voted for Obama
and I'm a staunch libertarian, formerly mostly Republican voting Ohioan who supports all of the BoR. I'm sick of this current iteration of the 4th amendment shredding, corporate welfare supporting, right wing pandering iteration of the GOP. And I'm a gun person. The laws are already in place to prevent anyone from walking down to the 7-11 and buying a "fucking bazooka" and nobody advocates the modification of the laws that prevent it.
If Obama starts to support "much STRONGER regulation" I'll rise up off my ever widening rear end and campaign from the highest mountaintops to get his butt bounced out of office in 2012, and I'm not alone. I trust his recent statements to stop harassing lawful firearms owners or I wouldn't have backed him. I'm not 100% sold. Let's hope he - and Biden and the newly elected pro gun Democrats - keeps his word. He didn't win the election by appealing to only the left, keep that in mind.

15. I second that, if Obama caves in to the loony left
on guns I will help you bounce the Democratic Congress out in 2010 and Obama in 2012. Obama was able to carry former Red states like Ohio, NC, Virgina, Colorado, Florida and Indiana because he and Biden both promised not to take the guns. If they back off on that promise it's war as far I am concerned.

You're the voice of reason? Guess what, I'm a "gun person" and don't support the OTC sale of rocket launchers.

14. Those people sound more like "bazooka people".
Really reasonable people don't try to infringe on the secured rights of 99.88% of us because .12% might use a gun illegally.

11. Unless you have a credible link, your quote is an unsupported assertion and probably not true. Obama
has made enough statements supporting the assault weapons ban so one need not cite internet rumors.

24. I'll echo the BS call. I don't think the VPC even has "fundraisers"...
as they IIRC get their operating funds from anti-gun-ownership foundations and not individual contributions. The phrasing also doesn't sound like anything he would say.
