Church Cancels Teen Gun Giveaway (Oklahoma)
An Oklahoma church canceled a controversial gun giveaway for teenagers at a weekend youth conference.

Windsor Hills Baptist had planned to give away a semiautomatic assault rifle until one of the event's organizers was unable to attend.

The church’s youth pastor, Bob Ross, said it’s a way of trying to encourage young people to attend the event. The church expected hundreds of teenagers from as far away as Canada.

“We have 21 hours of preaching and teaching throughout the week,” Ross said.

A video on the church Web site shows the shooting competition from last year’s conference. A gun giveaway was part of the event last year. This year, organizers included it in their marketing.

4. A friends 12 yo son won a semi auto
shotgun last year at a Ducks Unlimited meeting. The whole church/AR-15 thing seems a little weird on its face.

6. Not really...
If you're into shooting, AR's are always popular. They are very accurate and have almost no recoil. It doesn't matter if you're shooting zombies or punching paper, the AR is a great gun. It's no more or less dangerous than a so called "Fudd" gun.

7. I don't disagree
with any of that. Anyone who couldn't see the train wreck of a church giving one to a minor coming from a mile away is, well, an imbecile. An NRA camp would get bad press, a church camp will earn the loon award even from most gun owners IMO. This is coming from a fairly outspoken gun enthusiast who happens to be a Christian and who lives just one state away. Imagine the response of a non gun owning family when their 15 year old comes home from church camp with this:

Really, the more I think of it the dumber it becomes, but thats just me.

5. Is he also giving away 4-wheeled motorcycles?
There is tautologically no such thing as a "semi-automatic assault rifle".
