Nutter being Nutty again
Edited on Fri May-09-08 10:04 AM by bossy22
http://www.philly.com/dailynews/local/20080509_Nutter__Rendell_want_assault-weapons_ban.html

Days after a Philadelphia police sergeant was killed with a semi-automatic rifle, Mayor Nutter and Gov. Rendell called upon Congress to enact a new federal assault-weapons ban that would remove such weapons from the streets.

"The time has come for politicians to decide," said Rendell at the City Hall news conference attended by top police brass and state elected officials. "You have to decide whether you're on their side - the men and women who wear blue - or whether you're on the side of the gun lobby."

The federal assault-weapons ban, which lasted from 1994 through 2004, outlawed an array of military weapons and semi-automatics that fire and automatically reload when the trigger is pulled......

"I love the comment about the SKS not being an AW and then ramsey went on about how it should be on the list"

Just like banning red cars (Which stastically have higher accident rates) will lead to less accidents

hmm...i guess its just philly again

1. Maybe it is time for them to decide
who they are going to be accountable to. The Mayor who uses a dead cop for political purposes, or the people who pay their salary.

2. luckily
Harrisburg will make sure of that....thats why they are appealing to congress because they know they have chance in harrissburg

I think they know that the bill has little chances of passing- Nancy Pelosi has shown herself to be a political pragmatist and would probably not be too happy with a major wedge issue being brought before an election

3. The whole timing would be bad.
No matter how a Democratic Representative feels on the issue they will be labeled as a gun grabber.

If the pukes can't get this led balloon of the ground I suppose they will fall back on the gay marriage BS.

4. Nutter is the latest in a series...
...of corrupt mayors in the city.
Rendell, Street, and evidently Nutter have done nothing to stop the drug dealers and gangs who rule parts of Philly, and much drug money has been going to the city government, including the police, for a generation.

They all are, greedy, lazy pols, and really want to get the publicity for this. I see anti gun exactly the same as anti choice-a cheap shot at prulicity and votes in certain quarters.Nutter and Rendell are using an officer's killing to publicize themselves and their agenda. They are scum.

FWIW, I am not an NRA member, I am a Vietnam era Army vet, a 3rd gen Democrat and a gun owner for nearly 40 years.

Again, FWIW, the shooter in the latest police shooting was a convicted felon, and not legally allowd to own a gun. Would violating another law have made any difference to him?

11. can you help an outlander out?

Not everybody here lives in Philadelphia ...

Nutter is the latest in a series...
...of corrupt mayors in the city.

I google his name and "corrupt", and I find the term being used to refer to his predecessor. Is there widespread credible opinion concurring with your statement?

Mayor Nutter's feel-good first 100 days
Civic leaders, business executives, and even onetime foes say the former city councilman is off to a successful start.

In his first 100 days, Mayor Nutter, among other things, hired a new police commissioner with a dramatic promise to reduce crime, stamped his new administration with an emphasis on honesty and openness, and launched a spring cleanup to wipe away the city's "Filthadelphia" reputation.

But his most talked-about achievement is something else entirely: He has made people feel better about Philadelphia.

"If there is a place where the mayor has exceeded his strongest supporters' high expectations, it is in the image and impact area of what it has meant for him to be mayor," said Comcast executive David L. Cohen, who was chief of staff to Gov. Rendell when Rendell was mayor in the 1990s.

Civic leaders, business executives, and even former political foes say the former 15-year city councilman is off to a remarkably successful start. With only one day off since his Jan. 7 inauguration, he has also earned recognition as a consensus builder as he sets about forging ties with suburban, state and federal lawmakers.

Uh ... he's been in office since January??

12. So he's better than John Street...
...his predecessor, who had federal investigators all over the city hall, and had several of his closest friends and political appointees arrested and now serving federal sentences.

As you say, he has only been in since January-give him time.

6. Gun-grabbers should propose banning semiautomatic firearms for LEO and see if that reduces violent
crime.

7. Let's take firearms that aren't like the one the cop was shot with from people who didn't do it
In an election year!

Great plan guys.
