Rebels burn down homes - Uganda
Ayara - Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels operating in northern Uganda have been blamed for an attack on a village in which one person died and about 50 houses burned down.

A police official said the rebels struck when they entered the village of Ayara near the town of Lira, 380km north of the capital Kampala.

"We took one rebel prisoner, a boy of 14, and we handed him over to the army. He told us that there were 14 attackers in all and that 11 of them were armed with rifles," the official said.

When asked about the identity of the rebels, the policeman replied that they were LRA fighters.
