Pakistan-Iran relations be further strengthened, says Gilani
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Tuesday that Pakistan values its relations with Iran and the new government would take steps for further strengthening relations between the two brotherly countries.

"Pakistan attaches the highest priority to its relations with Iran, which are marked by shared history, geography, faith, culture as well as goodwill and understanding," Gilani said in a meeting with head of Tehran-based international organization for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri.

The Prime Minister said that both the countries are important members of the Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference and as such have a special responsibility to confront the challenges being faced by the Muslim Ummah from within as well from the outside world.

The Prime Minister also said that as founding members of ECO Pakistan and Iran should take lead in making it a more vibrant and effective economic union for achieving economic integration of the region.
