Agency: Nuclear plants secure enough if attacked by air
Agency: Nuclear plants secure enough if attacked by air
POSTED: 0116 GMT (0916 HKT), January 29, 2007

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Nuclear power plants will not be required to put up defenses against terrorist attacks from the air, according to a rule enacted Monday by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission ...

The NRC says the military and other agencies are able to protect the facility from airborne attacks ...

Democratic Rep. Ed Markey of Massachusetts said the rule "reflects an inadequate, industry-influenced approach that sacrifices security in favor of corporate profits." ...

The NRC's security plan, however, is for the most part classified, so details are unavailable ...

1. Of course, because nobody could hijack a plane...
...and fly it into a plant without the military intercepting it in plenty of time. Just like on 9/11, when the Air Force...erm...never mind.

3. Secure Enough?
"Secure enough" is not very comforting.

I believe it was when they caught Kahlid Sheik Mohammed (the 9/11 mastermind), but back when they caught some top guy they found a lot of documents showing great interest in attacking nuclear power plants.

Since damaging one power plant could kill hundreds of thousands and we know the Muslim extremists want to kill as many Americans as possible you would think that common sense would dictate that they need extra protection.

Just a thought though. Funny thing I don't want us to loose a city or region for the next 50 years.
