Oregon Gov. Signed Green-Energy Bill (25 x 25) Wednesday

Salem, OR (AHN) - Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski signed legislation Wednesday requiring that at least a quarter of all new electricity produced in the Beaver State come from wind, ocean wave, organic, solar and geothermal sources by 2025, joining the 23 other states with similar requirements.

"I firmly believe that we are enacting the most significant environmental legislation in Oregon in more than 30 years that will also stimulate billions of dollars in investment - creating hundreds, if not thousands, of jobs in both urban and rural Oregon," the Democratic governor said at the Capitol bill signing ceremony.

State Rep. Jackie Dingfelder, the Portland Democrat who championed the bill in the House, said the legislation will help the state take control of its energy future while using "homegrown renewable resources" to do so.

"By cutting our reliance on imported fossil fuels, we stabilize rates for consumers and businesses, we cut our global warming pollution, and we build a new 21st Century economy that benefits communities statewide," said Dingfelder, chairwoman of the House Committee on Energy and the Environment.
