Argentina ends Falklands oil deal

Argentina has scrapped a deal with the UK to share any oil found
off the Falkland Islands - days ahead of the anniversary of the war
for the islands.

Oil exploration

Scientists estimate that there may be billions of dollars worth of
oil under the waters around the Falklands, which are known to
Argentina as the Malvinas.

The 1995 agreement between the UK and Argentina is aimed at
encouraging oil exploration in the area.

Mr Taiana said Argentina had taken the step after the UK had
unilaterally drilled for oil.

2. That depends who get dumber faster, the Argentines or the mullahs
Argentina's claim to the Falklands is not recognized internationally. The people who live in the Falklands have no desire to change from the UK to Argentina. The UK ROE during the Falklands was quite generous to the Argentina. None of the major parties in the UK support transferring the Falklands.

That said, the UK navy is a ghost of its former self from the Thatcher era which means their most effective force would be submarine launched Tomahawks aimed at Argentina. That would not be a good thing.
