Most nuclear plans on track outside Japan, Germany
Japan and Germany are limiting or phasing out reliance on nuclear power after the Fukushima accident — moves that could raise petroleum prices — but most of the rest of the world is undaunted in its pursuit of nuclear energy.

Energy-hungry developing nations such as China, India, Mexico and Iran are moving forward on plans to build more nuclear plants, even as authorities around the world intensify safety inspections of existing plants after Japan's March 11 disaster.

Initial fears that erupted in the wake of the crisis, threatening to derail the nuclear renaissance of the last several years, have largely subsided. Many of the 30-plus countries with nuclear energy programs continue to promote them as a way to combat pollution and global warming — despite radiation risks and questions on what to do with nuclear waste.

"We're not going to stop eating for fear of choking," Chinese nuclear safety official Tian Jiashu was quoted in state media as saying after the Japanese disaster.

Well put.

And a Chinese "nuclear safety official".

2. Gee... I guess the facts are awfully inconvenient for you.

"Shoot the messenger" is all you're left with?

Any reason to believe the Chinese official doesn't know what he's talking about?

And it's an AP article.

4. Maybe we can get the aliens to run them for us?
We have a few posters here who may be able to contact them to ask. :)

6. Chernobyl Cleanup Survivor's Message for Japan: 'Run Away as Quickly as Possible'
Edited on Sat May-14-11 02:46 PM by Fledermaus
But experts say Fukushima is not as bad as Chernobyl.
Every nuclear accident is different, and the impact cannot be truly measured for years. The government does not always tell the truth. Many will never return to their homes. Their lives will be divided into two parts: before and after Fukushima. They'll worry about their health and their children's health. The government will probably say there was not that much radiation and that it didn't harm them. And the government will probably not compensate them for all that they've lost. What they lost can't be calculated.

What message do you have for Japan?
Run away as quickly as possible. Don't wait. Save yourself and don't rely on the government because the government lies. They don't want you to know the truth because the nuclear industry is so powerful.

8. Hey... they just had a big nuclear scare... cut them some slack.
The rest of the world (sans Germany of course) appears to have taken the less pathetic path.

10. What meltdown threads?
We've known there were three meltdowns since right after they happened. I posted as much at least a dozen times.

What's to avoid? Ongoing raving that this is somehow something new? That suddenly everything is now about to fall apart and the west coast of the US is endangered?

Please.

12. How blase will you be when workers can no longer work on the plants?
This could happen at any time with SFP #4 listing, and earthquakes constantly in that zone, and three corium piles in various states of leakage.

Just the greatest news about those nuke plans, WAIT I HEARD SOMETHING >>> !! OMG It's mother nature and she said "Fuck you", as did the majority of life on the planet.

13. How many times will you tell us that nobody can work there...
Edited on Sat May-14-11 09:21 PM by FBaggins
...only to watch people working there?

Is this a dozen times now?

Your active imagination does not require much response beyond pointing that out. Weren't you the one who told us starting on day three (?) that they had given up hope and wouldn't be able to return? That they "won't be able to have anyone on site"? That "it's impossible to stop now"? That the Fukushima 50 were on a suicide mission? That "they can't work there any more"?

Not only have they continued to work there, but they have remarkably kept doses to the workers (generally) well below accepted danger levels.

15. Of course not. Are you saying that you did?
But we did know that that's pretty much what was happening on at least one of the other units. I do find it interesting how many people then jump to wild unsupported conclusions from it.
