Net Oil Import Trends in USA and Chindia

The calculated net imports for the USA and (China+India) were calculated from data in the BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2010. Both were then projected out to 2020 using second-order polynomials.

The difference in the shapes of the two trends implies to me that Chindia will continue to erode Amerca's global economic (and consequently political) position over the next ten years, or until the global oil market constrains Chindian growth through rising oil prices.

The world export market for oil currently moves about 44 million barrels of oil a day (equivalent to 2 billion tonnes of oil per year), but is showing signs of having peaked.
