http://www.tcetoday.com/tcetoday/NewsDetail.aspx?nid=11597AN Australian fuel cell company with manufacturing facilities in the UK and Germany has claimed a world record for efficient conversion of hydrocarbon fuel into electricity.
Melbourne-based Ceramic Fuel Cells has achieved an electrical efficiency of 60% from one of its natural gas-powered combined heat and power systems while exporting 1.5 kw of electricity to the Melbourne grid.
The systems maximise energy efficiency by recovering heat from electricity generation to heat water.
“This is not a laboratory test but a unit that has all the functions of a commercial unit for homes,” managing director Brendan Dow said.
The new mark comes three months after CFL announced that it had achieved 55% efficiency with a Net~Gen Plus heat and power appliance system powered by its Gennex fuel cell.
