Fall River —Since the commonwealth has passed a bill allowing for neighborhood electric vehicles, a Philadelphia producer of the green cars is inspecting sites in eastern Massachusetts, including Fall River, to locate a manufacturing facility that would mean several hundred new jobs.

BG Automotive Group has begun to visit potential sites in and around the Boston area. Fall River and New Bedford are targeted as potential locations.

Gregg Nourjian, BG’s representative in the Boston area, is examining locations where there is a talented labor pool. BG is not only committed to green technology, but also to putting people back to work where jobs are most needed, he said. BG will require about 150 employees per shift per facility.

Mayor Robert Correia said Friday night he had not yet received any information about the electric car manufacturer, but indicated that he would be willing to meet with a company considering locating in Fall River.
