China Mass Producing It’s First (plug-in) Hybrid Automobile (with Warren Buffett)
http://chattahbox.com/world/2008/12/17/china-mass-producing-its-first-hybrid-automobile/

China (ChattahBox) – In an attempt to lead the effort on green living, China has released their first mass produced hybrid vehicle. The car is made by BYD Auto, a Chinese company backed by American Warren Buffett, who owns 9.9 percent of the firm.

The F3DM is the first plug-in hybrid car that has ever been released for mass production, making it the first real step to efficient green transportation. Not only can it be plugged in at special stations that will be placed strategically throughout China, but citizens will be able to charge their cars at home for the first time, adding convenience to the list as well.

<snip>

While it’s sure to be a slow market as these hybrid cars are tested and rated, it’s a clear indication of how serious the world is becoming about saving the environment. More details on the car itself are scheduled to be released soon. BYD’s hybrid car, which can run 100 kilometres (62 miles) on a full battery, will cost just under 150,000 yuan (22,000 dollars). Exports to the United States could begin from 2010, according to the report.

<not much more>

6. Plug in hybrids, even fueled by a partial coal mix (no grid is all coal)
Plug in hybrids, even fueled by a partial coal mix (no grid is all coal), are cleaner than internal combustion engine cars. They also provide two other benefits: the help stabilize the grid for renewables and they promote the technologies needed to go all electric.

3. Are you saying that China has bypassed
the "muscle car" era?

That hardly seems fair. ;-)
