Birds, fish may like wind farm just fine

Technology has been proven elsewhere

By DAN SHORTRIDGE • The News Journal • August 11, 2008

The charter boat captain says it's not worried chatter about the Bluewater Wind project -- it's optimism that the wind farm to be built off Rehoboth's coast will ultimately help Delaware's fishing industry.

"It actually will attract fish," Baker said. "We're going to have more structure out there to fish around."

The prospect of huge wind turbines looming off the coast has triggered controversy and concern in other locations, such as Massachusetts and, to a lesser degree, Europe.

Experts say the effects of the Bluewater project on Rehoboth Beach residents will be negligible -- perhaps even a benefit for some people.
