Wal-Mart goes solar (Ontario)
http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fpposted/archive/2008/05/23/wal-mart-goes-solar.aspx

Wal-Mart Canada Corp. has partnered with the Ontario government on a project that would see one of the retailer’s new Supercentres powered by the biggest rooftop solar-energy system yet in Canada.

Under the initiative, part of the retailer’s long-term goal to be supplied by 100% renewable energy, Menova Energy Inc.will install its PowerSpar technology to heat, cool and provide electricity for a 220,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercentre to be built in Markham.

The Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation (MRI) and Wal-Mart Canada announced today that they are pursuing a project with Ottawa-based Menova that would provide up to $5.9-million to support the demonstration of the company’s world-leading Power-Spar solar concentrator technology. The intention is to of a Wal-Mart store in Ontario, yet to be selected or constructed.

Under the proposed project, Ontario would provide Menova Energy with a $2.8-million forgivable loan and Wal-Mart Canada would provide up to $3-million to test and install the technology on the roof. If successful, the solar rooftops could be rolled out to other outlets.

3. Just imagine where we COULD have been
had we not been ruled by oilmen over the last 8 years. It's criminal that we're so far behind the curve in solar and wind usage.

4. Last 8 years? We could have been light years ahead if Carter had been able
to put us on the right track and keep us there.

5. A $2.8 million "forgivable" loan to a car cult mega store on a three million dollar system?

Wow.

This makes me want to worship the ground that the chinese plastic importer and diesel tanker cargo cult car culture Walmart walks on.

Did they get a giant subsidy to pay the Greenwashing fraud at Rocky Mountain Institute a heap of money to say that their huge diesel trucks were "green?"

Let's take a look at the Walmart Greenwasher fundie anti-nuke collecting his big bucks from the fundie Walmart:

One hopes of course, that they took the money to pay the piece of shit fundie anti-nuke out of the mouths of aid to dependent children. We all know about Walmart's wonderful family planning program, approved by God and Saint Sam in heaven alike:

WALMART SUCKS. THEY ARE TAKING PUBLIC MONEY FOR THEIR MARKETING. PUBLIC MONEY.

Got it?

No?

Couldn't care less?

Why am I not surprised?

8. 77 billion over 50 years? To produce 20% of US electricity? That sounds
like a reasonable amount to me.

With success like that, we should at least quadruple or more the subsidy.

Why for the cost of the Iraq war, we could build enough reactors to drive huge portions of the Rocky Mountain Institute's big fossil fuel friends out of business.

We could have clean air.

Contained and reusable wastes.

Cheap energy affordable for all citizens, not just yuppies holed up with groceries guns solar cells and barrels of oil.

I support a 10 trillion worldwide subsidy to nuclear power on a climate change immediate basis. Only nuclear power can give exajoule scale quantities of energy for subsidies in the billion range.

9. and $112 in stranded costs for canceled plants (paid by ratepayers - not plant owners)
and $1 billion each for the TMI and Brown's Ferry "boo boos" (again, paid by rate payers).

and $100 billion for disposal of spent fuel (paid by tax payers).

and $24 for decommissioning costs (paid by rate payers).

and $4 billion to dispose of depleted uranium hexafluoride (paid by taxpayers).

so, no it's no bargain.

and it sucks
