Poweo plans solar-powered electric plant in southern France (3-12 MW)

PARIS (Thomson Financial) - France's Poweo, an independent energy company, said it plans to build a solar-powered electric plant in southern France.

Work on the plant could begin as early as next summer, if all necessary permits are obtained and the project's economic feasibility is confirmed, Poweo said.

After an start-up phase of 3 megawatts, the plant could be scaled up to 12 megawatts, Poweo added.

The company has said it aims to build 40 megawatts of solar-powered electricity generating capacity by 2012, as part of its plans to produce 600 megawatts of electricity from renewable resources by the same date.
