Which tuna are we encouraged to avoid?
I forget which type is the one that's supposed to be fished in a method that's safe for dolphins. Most cans don't say a word about it. Just wondering.

1. used to be we were supposed to eat Albacore - they were fished
with lines not nets. But Albacore have higher concentrations of mercury. So - think about sardines and mackeral.

2. Yeah, it's a shame. I love tuna.
But even the dolphin-friendly varieties have unsafe levels of mercury.

I won't allow myself to eat more than a can a month.

3. The chunk tuna is supposed
to have much lower levels of mercury than the white albacore. The thing is, I don't like the chunk tuna! I limit myself too. No more than one small can no more often than once a week.

7. I use chunk for tuna fish sandwiches
mix it up with Miracle Whip. Seems to make a better textured spread.

But for just snacking from a can or making a recipe, albacore is the way to go.

Just call me Mr. Canned Tuna Connoisseur!

5. Thanks everyone!
I love tuna, too. But it looks like a can once a month is the way to go if it's albacore. We do love sardines as well. And those come in different flavors like tomato.

One safe protein might even be a total change - bean dip. I found a great one in the specialty aisle today. It has some roasted tomato in it and lots of garlic flavor. I like mixing regular tomato salsaa with bean dip, so this one is up my alley. But I digress.

Thanks again everyone and I do hope that Seany eats lots and lots and lots of tuna!

6. The Tuna is coaching the Dallas Cowboys.
So I don't think he needs to be avoided!
