The real threat from climate change is not a rise of a few degrees in temperature
it's a total massive shift in precipitation.

The southeast is in a major drought.

California, meanwhile, has had good rainfall in the last few weeks... the kind of rainfall that doesn't usually come until late November.

We're hosed. :(

7. Last year's storm wasn't that big a deal
The Columbus day storm of 1962 was probably the worst blow in the last 50 years. For a little perspective, check out this web site. http://www.climate.washington.edu/stormking/

4. Uh, the rise in temperature is what's causing the precipitation changes.
With all due respect, the facts are readily available to you.

We battle enough misinformation from foes without getting it from friends.

The temperature rise is the threat.

Drought is the result of that, and drought is only one of MANY negative results of global warming.

5. I think it's a semantic difference here
Globally it's a rise in temperature, but in Santa Barbara CA it's not the difference between 75 and 77 degrees, it's the difference between warm and dry and cool and rainy.

6. Actually, I think "opportunistic species invasion"

...has beaten drought to the punch and will continue to do so.
