“24” plans to go carbon-neutralBEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — 24 is going green.
Last year’s Emmy Award winner for outstanding drama series will become the first Los Angeles-based series to become completely carbon neutral, Fox Entertainment chair Peter Liguori told reporters Sunday at the summer meeting of the Television Critics Association.
24 will go green by reducing and in some cases eliminating its carbon emissions over the course of next season. The production hopes to do this by using biodiesel fuels to power generators and production vehicles.
On-stage production will use “green power,” by purchasing all its energy from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power through such renewable power sources as wind, solar and water. The stage will be rewired to use electric rather than diesel-generated, power. The production’s fleet of gasoline-powered trucks and cars will be converted to low-emission hybrid vehicles.
In addition, Kiefer Sutherland will record a series of public service announcements extolling the virtues of energy conservation.
