Four-pawed protesters pound Berlin's streets
More than 3 000 dogs were paraded through central Berlin in a demonstration by owners for more rights and public tolerance on Sunday.

A number of the dogs in the parade that snarled traffic throughout the centre of the German capital were wearing costumes.

1. Shades of the Firesign Theatre
We must end discrimination against dogs in employment!

See you all down at the Doggie Community Center.

2. in germany or some other european country
compaign animals are considered persons and not property (so abuse/killing is not treated as destruction of property).

like gandhi said, you can tell the greatest of a country on how it treats its animals.

3. Friends tell me you can bring your dog to most any place in the EU.
Hotels, restaurants, public trans...

Why is the US like it is on animals? I thought America was supposed to be liberal?

4. I can't stand those protestors
A city is no place to keep a dog - and there are way too many dogs in Berlin. Most owners don't even bother to clean up behind their dogs ("Minefield").
The existing dog-places are hardly used though - probably too inconvenient

The rulings they're protesting against:
- rules for protecting children (aggresive dogs have to be muzzled and chained); those were created after several fatal accidents.
- a bill to fine dog-owners not cleaning up ...
- big dogs have to wear a muzzle in public

Animals are actually protected by the constitution and are not considered things.
