Chicago Pizza reaching out to ANYONE looking for work
Edited on Tue Dec-28-10 01:08 PM by Crazy Dave
In my town they are advertising that anyone can and should apply for any open positions they have regardless of their previous occupation or career. They mentioned specifically that they are reaching out to those who have been unable to find any work these past few years. This is a huge difference than the ads I usually see that say "you must have a minimum of ten years of dish washing experience to apply". And I can't tell you how many people I know that have been out of work two years plus and can't get a job at McDonalds or Walmart because they are "over qualified".

I applaud this company for doing this and will patronize them in support of this.

This issue, unfortunately, has been around long before the recession started. When my dad got laid out in 2004, he had to go about doing the usual job searching. This was always the common response from employers rejecting him and he couldn't find a local job until recently because employers were always saying he was "overqualified". I suspect this excuse is really a reason for employers to discriminate on the basis of past pay and ageism.

6. A lot of these low rent employers are feeling important and vindictive too
A friend of mine who was laid off two years ago (made $45k a year) kept getting called in for an interview at McDonalds by some snot-nosed punk manager who told her every time she came in for her scheduled appointment that he was too busy so come back next Thursday at 2:30pm. She did this four times until she realized the guy was just toying with her for his own amusement.

And like I see with janitor, dishwashing, lawn care jobs now that offer minimum wage, they want you to kiss their ass and bend over backwards to even be considered for an interview. At least the professional occupations still act like professionals but they are only hiring people who are already employed.
