We Need An Economic Stimulus Bill To Revive The Economy

The following two recovery plans would do the job.

The first is: "America's Mayors Report to the Nation on Projects to Strengthen Metro Economies and Create Jobs Now".

This "Ready to Go" Public Works Plan Will Cost 149 Billion And Create 1.6 Million useful public works Jobs in 2 Years

The Republican and Democratic mayors released a report on January 17, 2009. It lists 18,750 local infrastructure projects in 779 cities costing 149 billion dollars that will create 1.6 million jobs. All of these projects can be quickly started and be completed by the end of 2010!

Find out exactly what "shovel ready" stimulus projects are ready to be built in your city, how many jobs would be created and how much they would cost under this plan.

It's in PDF format.

Go here:

http://www.usmayors.org/mainstreeteconomicrecovery /

And click on:

Option 1: Download a PDF version of the full report, including the executive summary, list of participating cities and then projects, sorted by project type or by city.
+ Click to download the report (5 MB)

The second plan Is: "The American Institute of Architects Plan For Restoring Our Economy and Greening Our Communities"

As the global financial crisis continues to threaten the livelihood of American businesses and workers, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) strongly urges Congress to support policies that will stimulate and restore confidence in the U.S. economy.

Rebuild & Renew: The AIA Plan
America’s architects believe that this economic crisis presents an opportunity not only to build, but to build better.

1. Nobody here wants to hear it.
They're all gloating about how Dems steamrolled Repubs and passed a massive spending bill...with limited stimulative value.

These are two good plans, though...

economy and what kinds of radical measures are necessary (such as nationalizing the major insolvent banks and much more stimulus) to prevent a full scale economic depression.

The Republicans don't think the weakened economic stimulus bill will accomplish much in the way of quick job creation. That's why they felt confident in voting against it and the so-called "moderate" Republicans helped them out by further weakening the House bill. The Republicans who voted against the stimulus bill expect to reap the benefits in 2010 and 2012 if Congress fails to pass adequate stimulus bills and other measures that can prevent a depression.

Why do so many DU'ers fail to grasp this? Some claim that objective criticisms of the stimulus bill and suggesting more stimulus constitute unfair, perhaps right-wing inspired, attacks on President Obama!!! Do they really believe that and are they that ignorant of how real politics works in Washington?

Even Obama has publicly said that if the economy is not better in 2012 he expects to be a one term President.

He's right.

3. You're absolutely right.
But that doesn't matter. "We won!!!!!!"

:eyes:

Just suggest that the "stimulus" bill should have contained more actual stimulus and see what kind of reaction you get.

4. And the Republicans seized on that obvious weakness to attack the entire bill!

Of course, they really prefer no stimulus at all! They are putting their political careers and ambitions first.

Hopefully last falls election was a precursor to the next where the Citizens of this Once Great Country will Finally get rid of the remaining incumbent politicians who have bankrupted this country. It is Amazing to me how people claim they want change in Washington and then Vote for the same people over and over again for decades. Vote All Incumbents Out Next time. The new guy won't be any worse than the current one and hopefully will be better.
