XMas Econometrics
2 questions for hard core economics types out there re: numbers surrounding X-mas retail

1) Who compiles the numbers that we will see between now and slightly after the first of the year on Xmas sales? Is it the US Dept. of Commerce or is it a private retail assn.?

2) How do they define the "Xmas season"? this year there is only 28 days from Thanksgiving to Xmas, last year there were 34. The 6 days fewer this year may skew some numbers.
