Are Luxury goods losing their appeal?
I've been laid off and I have been substitute teaching lately. I went to high school from 1978-1981 and college until 1985. Compared with my memories, kids today seem much, much less materialistic and much less obsessed with money. They complain openly and without any shame that their parents are short on cash. They wear non-descriptive clothes. The girls wear little or no make-up. Coming from the big-hair - Calvin Klein Jeans era, this seems to be a welcome change. Is it my imagination, or is this one improvement in society?

(Of course Parents short on cash is a sad reflexion on today's economy - but back in my day parents were short on cash too - but everyone pretending to be rich.)

1. Not in the area I live in...
You see tons of BMW's, people sporting Rolex's on their wrists, etc., but then again I live in the Beverly Hills of Missouri where people are obsessed with keeping up with the Jonse's.

2. Lots and Lots of Dollar Stores seem to be Springing up here
I take it as an indicator.
