McConnell was droning on about Republican talking points (for how well things are going in Iraq).

Mitch goes on to tell Chris the people (he just saw in Iraq)were "smiling, waving and GIVING HIM THE THUMBS UP"!

Somebody from the State Department needs to give this guy a, "World customs for dummies" handbook before he goes back and starts lifting veils to talk, "Face to face" or hugging women for photo-ops!

2. Conservative cultural stupidity is nothing new

It is more the norm than an aberration.

The conservative world view tends to see the United States culture as the only "valid" one and therefore the rubric from which to read all others.
