Why have conservatives let their "core" ideologies be Twisted?
Edited on Fri Oct-10-03 12:59 PM by Homer12
I know it's more complex than just blatent hypocrisy.

I think that there is some core value/ethic/emotion in conservative philosiphy (i.e. supposed less government, principles, good old fashioned fear, emotion over logic, etc...) that has made it easy for GW Bush and the PNAC Neo-Conservatives to manipulate the conservatives in our country to do "their" bidding.

Honestly, I'd like to get back to the days when conservatives didn't use Shout-Down Hannity tactis, Bold-Face Lying Limbaugh Persuasive Speech, and out-right evil Ann Coulters logic.

At least we (left and right) could talk, to each-other, before these whores.!

If this is true, Does this make "political conservatism" a flawd philosiphy from the start if it is easliy manipulated?

1. I think it is because
their core philosophy does appeal to the baser human instincts and those who fall for it now do not bother to look too deep into it. The nastiness of the repukes, in their lust for power, over the last 30 years or so has also led to a coursening of debate and an increase in ends-justifies-the-means approach for them.

I was watching an infomercial last night for the Laugh-In videos now on sale. William F. Buckley was in one clip and sat through one of Lily Tomlin's speechus-interruptus gigs. He looked like he was actually having a good time. He was conservative, principled, and relied on his intellect to argue for his perspective. that does not exist now, at least on their side.

2. Conservatism is based on GREED
so how difficult would it be to twist the philosophy into something sinister?

I mean really all of this stuff about smaller government etc really boils down to "MINEMINEMINE" just like a greedy little kid...

3. There is just one overarching pricinciple that guides them today.
winning.

The Groupthinkers seem to believe politics is a football game. Society and their personal lives might be going to hell in a handbasket, but, hey, they get bragging rights when they steal elections and isn't that the most important thing to justify their affiliation?

I remember when conservatives were into keeping the government out of people's personal lives. So how to explain the Clinton Inquisition? Patriot Act?

I remember when they were tight with the people's money. So how to explain no-bid contracts to their favorite corporate charities? A billion dollars to search for non-existant WMD?

Character used to be important to conservatives. How to explain Arnold? Rush? Bill Bennett? They've become the Party of character assassinations.

No, true conservatives today are a fringe subset in the Republican Party (Pat Buchanon), the rest so-called Republicans are either criminals or mindless enablers of the criminals.

5. An interesting link

Interesting stuff from a true conservative viewpoint.

I don't like calling today's neocons 'conservative'. Many of their philosophies are the antithesis of what the original conservative ideology was. Heavy government spending? Intrusion into personal lives? Don't think so.

By today's standards, Bary Goldwater, at one time considered the most conservative person on the planet, would be considered moderate by today's standards.

Today's neocons are a scary lot.

6. Show them their twisted ways
I just joined this forum recently and I must say I'm hooked, not like Rush Limbaugh hooked, that boy has a monkey on his back named hypocrasy. Before I replied to any threads I emailed the Big Kahunas of this site and asked a favor. I asked if I could "recruit" fellow liberals in taking our message to a Uber-Conservative website called DocWeasel.com, their forum section. They gave me the go ahead and I thank them for that. Seems while taking a break from their book burnings they delete every liberal post. In fact, todays new war on liberals started off with the moderators of that forum beginning a new tactic. Using my name to post fictitious replies. Sort of like soldiers sending letters to the editor they neither wrote or signed. I say we give them more than a few to delete. Join me in taking the TRUTH to www.Docweasel.com the forum section under political animal.

I thank you for the support and I'm sure the world will thank you.

p.s sorry for the cross posting but I need the help
