WCPN Cleveland, Ohio Public Radio Moves to Shock-Jock Format
Edited on Mon Feb-02-04 11:28 AM by Stanchetalarooni
Over the years I have drifted away, bit by bit, from local public radio in favor of the Internet as my major news and information resource.
This morning I woke up to the sounds of the local buffoon Dick Feagler analyzing and inciting the most pressing and pertinent issue of the day.
Was he leading a broadcast phone-in discussion on pResident Bush* calling for an independent investigation into the Ir ac WMD Intelligence failures prior to the Irac war? I would think that this would be one hell of a mountain to challenge over the radio.
Was he focusing his laser sharp observation and journalistic skills on the conflicted, goal-less, pathless, leaderless, smoke-and-mirrors laden, secrecy-shrouded, information-censored 911 Commission's difficulty finding good answers because the difficult questions are not allowed to be asked? Dick Feagler would not scale this immensity with a mole-hill mentality. Mr. Feagler has skills and journalistic tools and integrity and knows of their import.
No, our local Dick grappled with the greatest single peak of the day,our quest being his quest and vice-versa, he left no inquiring mind behind in the path up to the highest of precipice, to the very top and tip..........of a Jackson breast!
HHHEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. That had to be a Johnny Fever "rip across the record" moment
I hope you didn't discover it on your alarm clock preset station. That would have been an ugly way to wake up.

2. Oh God, NO!

Losing April Baer to Portland is sad, but putting that smirking, nostalgia-addled fossil DICK FEAGLER on is completely unacceptable. In his P.D. column he's right about 1/4 of the time, and I suspect that's usually by accident. I suspect won't be donating to WCPN this year - WRUW and WCSB are gonna get bigger checks.

On edit: It turns out that Feagler's just for today, and 'CPN's using a rotation of P.D. folks to fill in on mornings. Why they don't use Free Times and Urban Dialect people, I don't know, but in any case, this Dick shall pass.

4. HEY.
I grew up in Berea and Dick was cool in the'70's. Sorry to hear that he has sold out. It must be the price of employment everywhere now.

5. Yeah, it's kind of a shame
He's become a barely-tolerable fogy who writes incessantly about the good old days as though the '40s & '50s were a blissful American Utopia where no-one had bad breath or ever needed to go to the toilet.

OTOH, he's been against the Iraq war pretty much from the start. Basically he's a no-nonsense paleo-con, though with an apparent soft spot for organized labor. I don't really think he's sold out - he's an institution, he'd have a gig in Cle no matter what he wrote. I think he's spent, is what it is.

6. I used the 'send to a friend' feature to send this post to WCPN
I thought it not only fair to post to DU but also to send along to the radio station with the following addressee and introduction message......I probably know of what I speak because I have been there, I just don't know why I can't be compassionate without being sarcastic. I'm working on it. Someone hugged me. I'm evolving!!!!!!
........................................................

WCPN - Please distribute as freely as possible. Send it as far outside the official loop as possible. Mak sure the cleaning people and security people see this. They may be the only ones that can help.

Click and Clack are funny. They deserve a spot in everyones heart that owns and operates an automobile.
Dick Feagler has so much potential. He is bright.
He is quite bright.
I just don't think that he truly believes this himself.
Why would a man shill when he doesn't have to?
For so many years he denies his own true nature when it is so evident to others.
He has skills and has much more ability than he gives himself credit for.
He reminds me of my wifes' uncle Howard, the lawyer with the 3 marriages and the estranged kids. I wish that his parents would have loved him and hugged him and told him that he was ok.
These guys that are the last to know are such lonely people and the psychic devastation they do to others really isn't their fault.
They may be buffoons but they also deserve compassion.
Can someone over there at the station give the man a hug?
Can someone find some place in their heart for this man?
A stranger won't do. Certainly us listeners (marks) can't.
It has to be someone that knows him.
Someone real that can touch him where he has never been touched before.
And the unseen, unheard programmers over there? We don't even know you but we wish that you had been hugged and loved, too!
