CNN mischaracterizes referendum
The referendum in Ohio regarding health care was about forcing people to buy health insurance. Let's remember, Obama was opposed to this provision of the health care bill, and in favor of a public option. The provision in the bill requiring people to buy health insurance was put there by Republicans and conservative Democrats! Remember, this was a point of debate during the primary between Hillary and Obama, something Obama strenuously objected to.

CNN has repeatedly been reporting that Ohio voters have rejected "Obamacare." Not true. They rejected a provision that Obama never wanted. They have only rejected a part of the bill, not the whole thing. What they should have said was that Ohio voters rejected a Republican part of the bill which Obama didn't want either.

I do not know why the media is intent on referring to healthcare reform as "Obamacare" when so much of the bill contained provisions which Obama did not support.

4. That is right. CNN is not worth a fuck, just like Fox.
And I mean that most sincerely. I no longer turn it on at all.

2. Obama was only in favor of a public option publicly. He'd made a back room deal w/pharma to nix it.
Search DU, you'll find plenty on that treachery.

6. my understanding was the Senate wrote the bill
Based on news reports that I was watching, except for stating his basic principles on health care reform (what he would or would not sign), Obama did not have much to do with writing the healthcare bill. There were a lot of Democrats who were very upset with his lack of involvement. What ended up happening, if my memory serves me, is that basically it was that group of Republicans and conservadems who wrote the final bill. And one thing these Republicans and conservative Democrats were violently opposed to was a public option. Furthermore, they loved they idea of forcing people to buy private health care because it was a huge giveaway to the health insurance industry.
