Thought occurred to me today on the "Million Moran March" 9/12 ... pic added

in the 90s, you had pictures of the "Million Man March" ... the mall was F*CKING FILLED ... packed ...

and yet, the media made sure to say that the "million man march" failed miserably to reach 1 million marchers ...

All the pictures had the mall filled ... with people ...

and now, the Repugs use as evidence, one street camera with a questionable time frame and no date/time stamp (flag at half-staff in their photo, but the live camera later shows the flag at full staff ... wtf? A government employee working on a Saturday? Alert the Media!). Also, one person says "Look ... that car that was there in the one frame is there later!" ... when I go to work, I tend to have a favorite parking space ... and if most of the offices are closed on Saturdays ... wouldn't you park in the nearest convenient parking space?

So, if the Mall, filled to bursting, isn't a million people, how is it that one street would hold 2.5 million people? (I ran into a person who had "marched" there Saturday ... she said that they said 2.5 million people marched ... Repugs have one "video" ...)

Maybe Diebold is doing crowd estimates now ...

Edited to add:

850K man march picture ... note, the angle of the photo can show crowd. Million Moran March was lower, so that you can't see extent of crowds...

1. They cling to their lies
because that's all they've got. They must construct elaborate Potemkin's villages in their minds to support their delusions of grandeur. I hope they cling to their delusions all the more tightly; it makes them appear even more loony to the rest of the world.

2. interesting...
thanks for the info.

all the reliable estimates I saw were topping out variously at 10,000 to maybe 30,000?

in any event there is no way there was 1.5 million as some of the hardcore teabaggers are insisting - so far as I know the city continued to function w/o any problems whereas numbers that large at President Obama's inauguration fill up the city's transportation services/infrastructure.

thanks!

3. and wasn't there some sort of info about 400 or so buses were used
so, 400 buses (let's be generous and say 500 buses) at 40 per bus would be:

40 passengers X 400 buses = 16,000 people

Being generous:

500 buses * 60 passengers = 30,000 people

and I doubt that there were that many people who just drove there ... especially my "friend" who went ... she tops out well over 200lbs (I know this because I used to weigh in around 200 lbs, and she's as tall as me and well wider than I ever was), and has health issues ... doubt she "marched" much ...

5. There were 500 busses however,
everyone paid their own way. A friend of mine in Buffalo had an aunt that went. I don't think the GOP or any group loaded busses... but maybe.

Here's a vid of the crowd. It makes you dizzy but at the end, there is a panoramic. If you can even believe it was realy taken at the rally - there were a lot of people.

8. pics 5 & 7 in post # 4 showed quite a large number of people ...
and, being from Reich-wing sites (free republic is not a lefty site), I find it hard to believe that they would be able to get estimates of over 1 million people from the same type of "estimation" they place at (at most) 400,000 ...

:hi:

4. More pics of "850,000 Man March" of 1995
where the media made sure to point out that the attendance far failed to reach the "million men" advertised:

where MSNBfreakinC said that crowd estimates run wild, and that the "Million Man March" was more like 400K: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28662672

Here's a pic from an estimate of 100K (from a conservative site), Obama rally in St. Louis:

Isn't that the mall in that picture? Who are the people, who were already having another event? Were they counted in the Baggers funfest?

12. enough is enough!
i’m tired of all the misinformation about the 9/12 attendance numbers. if a comprehensive university of indiana, peer reviewed, study isn’t good enough for you naysayers. and, if a highly regarded british media report is as equally dismissed. then, as a last resort i offer from the most highly recognized seekers of truth the undisputed, most accurate figure that is available. now i know you left-wingers are going to bash me for bringing out the truth, but i have only two words to say to you….bring it on!
