Can we start a "Welcome back, media" forum to commemorate those we thought
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 07:54 PM by checks-n-balances
were dead to it coming back around? Maybe more of a "feel good" place to go to keep us going and to know who to send supportive & encouraging email to?

It would be a more focused forum even than the general one - this one - for Media.

Nothing wrong with this one, but maybe it's time to bring this one to greater attention.

If that's not such a good idea, what about a "Hall of Shame" forum for either media or politicians or both?

Just a thought!

(edited to add an idea)

More then one issue must prove out. The US media is money driven.

3. Well I guess that settles it then! Thanks for your time.
Even though I was inspired by this and all the other media pundits/journalists who have begun to come around this week:

Yeah the media are money driven, but they also listen to public opinion from time to time, like some of them are now. We need to give them support or they'll think we're not there.

10. Why does someone like Limbaugh survive?
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 08:56 PM by LiviaOlivia
There's apparently a market. I'm sorry you don't like my post but corporations and the RW Congress, that makes laws or discards laws, is what has created our world. Even during the Clinton years, i.e. the Repuke Congress is in control. I'm not ready, like I quess you are, to embrace media corporations. That's my legitmate belief. Why do you get snippy?

The "Fairness Doctrine" must be re-instituted.

I hope for an independent media. "Just the facts ma'am'. All we get is politicized editorializing.

NewsCorp=Fox
GE=NBC=MSNBC=CNBC
Time Warner=CNN=Headline News
VIACOM=CBS
Is that all there is? Remember that great Peggy Lee song?
The fucking corporate line? TV is shit. Radio is shit. Watch the bastards try and take away the Internet next.

I don't trust them. Hearts and minds. Clean and fair voting.

11. Don't get me wrong - I've been mad as shit at Corporate Media because they
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 08:55 PM by checks-n-balances
HAVE been complicit. But I don't think we should wait until the media gets back on track with the Fairness Doctrine, which I wish would happen. But I haven't given up on them either, especially after this past week. Maybe some of them are human after all, maybe even a few at the top, who knows?

I'm not sure about why Limbaugh thrives now, but knowing his history, he wasn't a phenomenon who arose from nowhere. He was found and groomed by RW powers that be years ago - a willing shill, their media superstar-to-be who could be a conduit for their talking points and agenda. Big bucks went into propping him up and supplying him with daily "scripts", in a controlled environment where no callers w/opposing opinions are allowed - who wouldn't succeed with that kind of support? He didn't get there all by himself. David Brock's Republican Noise Machine has said as such.

Anyway, I'm just happy to hear some truth coming through the airwaves, albeit under tragic circumstances. Even if the truth-telling doesn't last, I'll take it for now.

(edited since I obviously can't spell)

2. I'm not opposed, but let's wait to see how this plays out
for the next few months. If you-know-who goes down, I'm all for sending roses!

7. Of course "welcome back media" wasn't a good title and implies
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 08:06 PM by checks-n-balances
that the whole media is back for good. That's not what I meant.

Maybe just a "Kudos to" forum directing us to those who should receive here-and-now pats on the back from us to keep them doing what they're doing. If not the media, then other leaders or people in the limelight who need support directed at them or to someone on their behalf.

Hey, if Brian Williams, Tucker Carlson & Anderson Cooper can say some of the things they've said recently due to actually BEING THERE on the scene, they're probably getting some negative messages from the powers that be for being truthful (or they probably will get it soon). It takes more guts than ever before to speak truth to power these days and I'm glad they're doing it, even though it took this to wake some of them up.

(edited for spelling)

6. Nope. They have too much to atone for. Starting with bashing Gore..
while to propped up puppet boy, and the election theft in 2000. If they really want to redeem themselves, they will finally expose the election theft and stop praising dim son for his 9/11 failure.

8. Following that reasoning, shouldn't we rebuke ex-lurking freepers

who have seen the light & have started posting on DU? Maybe they've got a lot to atone for too. If we did that, why should they even bother?

This poster says it better than I just did:
