GM pulls ads from the L.A. Times
Automaker's dealers object to newspaper's articles and editorials
April 9, 2005
ASSOCIATED PRESS

LOS ANGELES -- General Motors Corp. says it will stop advertising in the Los Angeles Times, at least temporarily, because of dealer concerns about "factual errors and misrepresentations" in the newspaper's articles and editorials.

edit ...

On Wednesday, the paper published a column by auto critic Dan Neil that called GM, which has struggled recently with sluggish sales, "a morass of a business case" and called for the impeachment of two executives. Among other criticisms, Neil said GM "utterly missed the boat on hybrid gas-electric technology" while speeding up production of SUVs.

Here we go again. US car manufacturers completely miss the trend to fuel efficient autos. Idiots!

1. LMAO...
What a bunch of morans. Yes GM depended entirely too much on their SUVs to make a profit. They never made a profit on their mid-sized and compact vechicles. With gasoline prices going up, there is a drop in SUV sales and profits. Although I hate to see this company in demise and many good jobs will be lost, they are getting what they deserve.......

2. Bail Out
I wonder if the government will bail them out like it did Chrysler 25 years ago.

4. I don't call that a bail out. It was loan guarantees that were repaid
month earlier than required.

If GM can present as convincing an agrument for loan guarantees as Lee Iocca did, than I think it would be a wise thing for the Feds to do.

I don't fault the car makers for making the vehicles that a lot of Americans want. I agree, the SUV buyers are mostly egotistical fools who buy them for show more than need, and I'd bet most of 'em are crying at the gas pump now, but that's not the fault of the car maker. I think the oil industry has cried wolf too many times, and most Americans don't believe there's any problem getting sufficient oil.

3. Darn Calif. print media
Won't give them anymore of our business, per GM, we will show them to talk bad about us. By the way, last week we rented a Chevy, classic I think, el cheepo, from San Francisco to Oklahoma and that was a piece of crap car. No wonder they are in trouble. -- Yes I remember the 70's when we were behind in developing cars that guzzled less gas. Took us years to fix that and in a few short years are back ignoring reality. Repugs ridiculed people for not driving an SUV, they are Entitled. Preferably a Hummer. Don't their owners get a special tax break?

5. I read the Time's article; blistering...

Called the Pontiac G6 a 'sales flop', harped on the idea that they can't sell enough Prius's and other Japanese hybrids...really took GM to task; so they pulled their advertising like a bunch of GOP crybabies.
