AAR Commercials
I only get to hear AAR on my Sirius radio or on-line. Heck, I only live in the Nation's Capitol!

Anyway, it seems like every commercial is a public service announcement. Don't get me wrong, it's great, but I was just wondering if the commercials are different on "real" stations. I keep hearing that they are doing well, but most of that is from the hosts themselves.

1. huh?
I never hear any public service announcements. Too many ads, IMO. Ad after ad after fricking ad. And their commercial breaks are way too long, too. They're at least 4", I think.

2. I dunno
Every time I tune in, the first commercial I hear is the "Cortaslim" ad. I'll stop there. :)

3. Ads indicate sponsors of AAR, which I'd like to support
I think that was the point of the question.

Also, if no one is buying commercials on AAR, they are going to run out of money. Radio stations stay in business by selling commercials. Didn't you guys ever watch 'WKRP in Cincinnati'?

5. Could be local ad time
Or it could be what they put on the online feed, since union contracts with the voiceover people who do ads make it difficult to air actual commercials on the web feeds.

I've heard a few streaming stations that don't edit out the ads (mostly Clear Channel feeds). But a company like CC sells ads in group packages, so when advertisers make a buy, they buy multiple stations.

And of course, there's the ad time sold by AAR (actually Jones Radio Network, which contracts with AAR to sell time). Lots of the advertisers buying AAR are the same ones buying other talk radio shows and networks (Cortaslim, Tempurpedic, etc.).

6. That's interesting
When AAR started out last March, there were plenty of public-service announcements and almost no paid ads. Now it's the reverse, which is a good thing, actually -- it means they're making money and can therefore stay in business. From your description, I'm guessing that the advertisers generally aren't heard on Sirius (or XM?). Maybe it costs a lot more to advertise on the satellite broadcast? Just a guess.

By the way, word is that AAR will have a radio station in DC in the new year.
