NYTimes: Kerry And Edwards Oppose Diebold
Both Mr. Kerry and Mr. Edwards promised to fight any attempts to adopt an electronic touch-screen voting machine developed by Diebold Elections Systems, arguing that the paperless machines were open to abuse.

Mr. Edwards denounced touch-screen voting machines, saying that "a lot of people think they are just as bad as butterfly ballots."

And Mr. Kerry said: "When I win the nomination, I'm going to put together the strongest legal team that we've ever had in this country and we are going to challenge, we're going to start with a challenge to the Diebold election system."

"We had more votes; we won!" Senator John Edwards of South Carolina bellowed to cheers. "We are never going to let the United States Supreme Court choose the president of the United States again."

And Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts said: "None of us are going to forget. We are going to be energized."

PS - Anyone else hear Kerry say that Florida was more than a place, it also marked a deep wound to our democracy? We will not forget.

1. There is a very good article in the Nov. GQ about BBV...
even mentions Bev and her work.

Must read.

2. why wait for the nomination?
And Mr. Kerry said: "When I win the nomination, I'm going to put together the strongest legal team that we've ever had in this country and we are going to challenge, we're going to start with a challenge to the Diebold election system."

Kerry, as a senator, has a chance to propose a bill about it right now. Why not seize the day, instead of waiting for the nomination?

3. Dean said that, too
That after the nomination, he would get on this.

4. Dean has to wait. He's not in Congress.
Kerry can act now.

9. And Dennis Kucinich has ALREADY done something
by publishing those Diebold documents on his congressional website, and daring the bastards to use the DMCA on him.

Talk is good, but action is better IMHO.

5. See that small figure up ahead, John? Hurry to catch up to Dennis on this
I'm glad the other candidates are realizing the extreme danger in the black box voting machines. I'm also really glad Dennis is doing something about it now.

8. Interesting.
I'm glad Kerry and Edwards are jumping on the bandwagon. Dennis Kucinich does it first, and then others join in to take credit and get the media coverage that DK doesn't.

This is a big enough issue that every elected democrat ought to be taking action. Now that we've got this out in the open, it's time to air the "scrubbed" voter rolls. Drop Dennis a line; I'm sure he'll take it on for us.

6. Now its a news story???
I like Kerry and Edwards and I am sure as heck glad they are doing this, but once again DK leads the fight. He posts the memos on his .gov site. Then gets Diebold to back down. Now the talk is Kerry and Edwards and their opposition against Diebold. Anyone who still thinks the media is not purposefully marginalizing DK is delusional.

Anyway, go Kerry and Edwards!

7. Ain't that the truth
And they'll get around to it "after the nomination."

DK's already gotten results, while doing his job in Congress and running for President.

12. what IS Kerry waiting for?
--if he doesn't get the nomination is he just going to forget about this issue?

John, we the people would really appreciate your influence in correcting this voting machine problem--NOW.

and extreme kudos to Dennis Kucinich for his courageous, much-needed and highly proactive work on this issue. :toast:

14. Is anyone considering going to DK after this?
This is what I call fine leadership. He's speaking out now on our conduct in Afghanstan or sigh will people continue not to see what could be and what god allmighty should be. Sorry for the rant, thanks DK.

15. Good, but they need to get
a LOT more aggressive on this issue. Nothing else really matters if the vote is already decided.

16. No offense Funk, but I'm with DP on this-
Kucinich posts the Diebold memos, Diebold backs down from a Congressman and NOW the press wants to discuss Kerry and Edwards' positions on the matter. Little late guys, not to mention lousy coverage of the sequence of events.

Also a little perturbed with Kerry talking about after the nomination. That was kind of a creepy way to put it....as if he'd wait until he reaps the potential benefits (which don't exist for Democratic Candidates) to challenge corrupt voting machines companies.

NO, FTR, I do NOT think that John Kerry is in bed with Diebold! I was just pointing out that his statement doesn't sound well thought out.
