Kerry, Environmentalist, Winner
John Kerry is an environmental leader. As a Senator, he has a proven track record. As a 2004 Presidential candidate, he has proposed policies to make sure our environment remains safe from the forces that would pollute and destroy it. Kerry enjoys support from liberals, moderates, and even some Republicans. Therefore, he is the one candidate that can really beat Bush. He needs your support; the future of our environment is at stake! We can not let Bush get re-elected!

As President, John Kerry would work to strengthen the Clean Air Act to reduce mercury, sulfur, nitrogen and carbon emissions. Kerry would make sure that our drinking water remains safe and clean. He would see to it that the government cleans up toxic waste dumps and informs the public about hidden pollution. He would continue fighting hard to protect marine ecosystems, to increase public funding to protect open spaces, and to promote conservation programs. He has an energy plan that emphasizes the development and use of renewable energy sources. John Kerry would guarantee that real environmental standards are part of all trade agreements. Moreover, Kerry would make negotiating and concluding comprehensive environmental treaties a clear priority of his Administration.

In the Senate, Kerry has already proven his commitment to curbing global warming and ozone depletion. He co-sponsored a resolution that passed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee calling for American leadership in international efforts to deal with climate change. In June 2003, Senator Kerry called on the EPA Inspector General to investigate the Bush Administration's omission of climate change data from the EPA's 2003 "State of the Environment" report. The national media should have picked up on that, but it was not widely reported!!

In February, the National Parks Conservation Association gave John Kerry a Friend of the National Parks award for his outstanding voting record to protect national parks during the 107th Congress (2000-2002). In the past, the League of Conservation Voters has given him a 100 percent score and named him an Environmental Hero. Clearly, John Kerry is an environmentalist and in the best position to defeat George W. Bush, who is not a friend of the environment. If you care about the environment and want Bush out, support John Kerry!!

2. Kerry who???
Yeah, I seem to like Kerry, though I don't know too much about him. I think I remember him being one of the few with backbone enough to vote against the IRAQ war license. If the American public does become outraged at being duped, that will leave him as the front runner.

Even he hasn't collected as much cash as the others.

4. Kerry Is Extremely Strong On The Environment
John Kerry has been a leader in the environmental movement throughout his career. Kerry was called the Senate's most outspoken environmentalist and was named an Environmental Hero by the League of Conservation Voters. Kerry led the effort to make environmental preservation a global priority through comprehensive treaties and pushing for the inclusion of important environmental protections in free trade agreements. And he has made attaining 20% of our energy from renewable energy by 2020 a centerpiece of his campaign.

Here is some of what John Kerry has done and will do to protect America's environment:

Continue the Fight for Clean Air: John Kerry is a leader in addressing the problem of acid rain and air pollution. His work led to the passage of tougher smog standards in the Clean Air Act of 1990. And he fought hard to block the efforts that would weaken the Clean Air Act and joined a bipartisan proposal to limit mercury, sulfur, nitrogen and carbon dioxide from power plants.

Provide Clean and Safe Drinking Water: John Kerry worked to guarantee cleaner and safer drinking water by strengthening the Safe Drinking Water Act, and fought efforts to weaken it. Most recently Kerry voiced his strong opposition to President Bush's attempt to rollback drinking water standards for arsenic. According to the National Academy of Sciences, arsenic in drinking water may cause cancer, damage heart and blood vessels and contribute to birth defects. Fortunately, the Bush Administration reversed course and implemented the original proposal to reduce arsenic in drinking water.

Enforce Environmental Laws: John Kerry knows that the strongest environmental laws will be ineffective if the Administration slashes the support to enforce those laws and looks the other way while corporations continue to pollute. Kerry will strengthen the environmental cop-on-the-beat, and prosecute environmental criminals. He will also actively pursue environmental justice for communities that have been the victims of years of corporate environmental assaults.

Protect a Clean Environment in Trade Agreements: John Kerry believes that free trade agreements should include provisions to protect the labor and environmental standards so that international agreements do not undermine our clean air and water. He would negotiate agreements that grow the economy and create jobs but do not open a backdoor attack on our environmental standards.

Clean up Toxic Waste and Protect a Community's Right to Know: John Kerry is a strong supporter of cleaning up toxic waste dumps and of preserving and expanding the public's right to know about pollution in their neighborhoods. He cosponsored legislation in 2002 which would have brought millions of more dollars home to America's communities to clean up Superfund sites, the most toxic sites in our nation.

Curb Global Warming and Ozone Depletion: John Kerry is a leader in the national and international effort to reduce the threat of global warming. He wrote a successful amendment that increased renewable energy and climate change research funding. And he wrote a resolution that passed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee calling on the Bush Administration to stop blocking progress and to engage in international efforts to mitigate the threat of climate change.

Stop Oil Drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge: John Kerry helped block proposals to drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. President Bush is determined to sell the resources of the Refuge to oil and gas companies. The resulting development will industrialize the Refuge and forever degrade its pristine ecosystem.

Protect Open Space: John Kerry fights for increased funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund which helps states and communities protect parks and open space. These resources have helped protect thousands of farms, forest and parks in our cities, suburbs and countryside.

Expand Farmland Conservation: John Kerry supports conservation program like the Wetlands Reserve Program, Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program, Farmland Protection Program and the new Conservation Security Program and Grassland Reserve Program. These programs will more than pay for themselves by improving water quality, reducing soil erosion, and providing habitat for numerous wildlife species.

Encourage Renewable Energy: John Kerry called for the United States to work toward producing 20 percent of all electricity in the United States from renewable sources like wind, solar, geothermal, ethanol and biomass.

Conserve Energy and Cutting Pollution with Efficient Vehicles: John Kerry sponsored legislation with Senator John McCain that would have made America's cars and trucks more efficient and safer. His proposal would save millions of barrels of oil per day, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and smog and save consumers billions of dollars. He would also encourage the production of clean vehicles by boosting support of research and providing tax credits to consumers who purchase advanced technology vehicles.

Protect Marine Ecosystems: John Kerry is a strong protector of the marine ecosystem - a resource crucial to his home state of Massachusetts and the entire country. He wrote legislation banning the dumping of plastics and other waste off our coasts, fought efforts to drill in sensitive areas in Georges Bank, and off the Florida and California coast ad sponsored legislation protecting dolphins, porpoises, seals and other marine mammals.

6. That's a good start, alright
Sounds like Kerry's got the right thinking on the environment and that's a biggie for me. But it's just a piece of the puzzle - what concerns me about Kerry is not his position on the environment, but his positions on the damage being done to civil liberties and national security in the name of homeland defense. The stuff his website addresses is such small fry in the overall scheme of things, he's not addressing the big issues, the underlying violation of basic constitutional protections in the name of national security. If Kerry wants my enthusiastic support, he's got to be more outspokenly critical of the Patriot Act he voted for. Environment is important, but shredding our constitution and making the US into a universally loathed pariah state are even bigger issues for me; I don't have much patience for waffling in this area.

5. Check out this Kerry quote
This is from a speech on the environment:

America has not led but fled on the issue of global warming. The first President Bush was willing to lead on this issue. But the second President Bush's declaration that the Kyoto Protocol was simply Dead on Arrival spoke for itself - and it spoke in dozens of languages as his words whipped instantly around the globe. What the Administration failed to see was that Kyoto was not just an agreement; it represented the resolve of 160 nations working together over 10 years. It was a good faith effort - and the United States just dismissed it. We didn't aim to mend it. We didn't aim to sit down with our allies and find a compromise. We didn't aim for a new dialogue. The Administration was simply ready to aim and fire, and the target they hit was our international reputation. This country can and should aim higher than preserving its place as the world's largest unfettered polluter.

7. I think the environment is one of the most important issues overall
I think the environment is one of the most important issues overall but it doesn't seem to be much of a vote-getter. Maybe cuz so many of the people who really care about environmental issues feel so disenfranchised. How do we get them to believe in the power of voting?

8. I agree with Feanor
I feel that the environment is one of the biggest aspects to a candidate's policies. I mean, what other issue, other than national security, concerns such a broad horizon? The environment not only concerns us, but everybody else on the planet. If we have bad air, sooner or later, that bad air is going to travel around and affect other people. This is why I support John Kerry, because he's obviously the strongest accomplished environmentalist of the lot.
