Statement by Governor Dean on Today’s FEC Filing
Statement by Governor Dean on Today’s FEC Filing:

DES MOINES—Governor Dean issued the following statement today regarding today's Dean for America Third Quarter FEC filing. The filing will reflect that the campaign raised $14.8 million in the third quarter from 168,000 Americans contributing an average of $73.69:

"Today's filing—the largest ever by a Democratic presidential campaign—is about more than simply donations given and cash spent. It is a report on the state of the American republic. It is a statement by a growing segment of American citizens that they no longer will accept the political status quo.

"This report documents an American citizenry that is awakening to reclaim their democracy and restore their republic; a citizenry that wants to take back their economy from corporate scandals and corporate executives who inflate their salaries while fleecing pension funds; a citizenry that fears its elected officials are bankrupting their children's future. The American people are frustrated that last October the Congress abdicated their Constitutional role of deciding the issue of war and peace. They feel betrayed by a Democratic Party establishment that rolled over and provided no opposition, no debate, to a mistaken war and continued attacks on our civil liberties.

"It shows a growing number of people who want to break the inertia in both our economy and politics, an inertia that only benefits established corporate interests and does nothing to solve our problems in healthcare, the environment, and job creation.

"The citizens in this report understand the fate of this country is in their hands. Only they have the power to exact change in their country. By getting involved, they have chosen to take on the responsibility of citizenship. Nearly half-a-million Americans have joined our campaign to take our country back from a politics of cynicism and an economy that works for too few, and nearly a quarter million have contributed what they can to help us build the greatest grassroots campaign presidential politics has ever seen. The stunning collective effect of their individual action is documented in today’s report for all to see.

1. And pray tell me how is Dean going against corporate interests?
other than having a lot of individual contributors....

NO REDUCTIONS FOR DEFENSE CONTRACTORS...CAN'T REDUCE THE DEFENSE BUDGET IN "THIS TIME OF TERROR!!"

NO HELP FOR PEOPLES' DRUG COSTS:...LET THE STATES DO IT. (Gotta keep those pharma companies churning out the profits.)

NO PLAN FOR FIGHTING CORPORATE CORRUPTION AND GREED.

Guess we just gotta take his word for it that everything will be peachy keen if he gets to be President. A BLOG is right.

3. Well, being against the war in Iraq would've
reduced the defense budget greatly. He definitely plans on having a real prescription drug plan (not the bogus one Bush is for). I'm not sure if he has any specific plans for the third, but the reason most politicians don't do anything about it is because they have to worry about their big business donors constantly. That is what the small donations avoid.

4. You just have a lot of blow hard questions that
could be answered by going over Dean's platform on his website.

5. That last paragraph!
When I first started listening to Dean and he said "You have the power!" I thought it was a great slogan. But 6 months later I wholly understand what it means, that he is literally giving the citizens of the US power by getting us energized in enough numbers to actually change things. If his campaign continues on this exponential path, the large corporations will no longer be able to control us, because we will have the numbers to continually out-vote them. Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? I have lofty hopes for what the Dean campaign can mean to America.

7. Congrats.
Congrats to Dean, really. I really like to see that kind of grassroots fundraising. It restores my faith in the Democratic Party. I just hope it goes to Bush bashing, and not to bashing MY guy :)

9. Oh some of it will go to bashing just like some of Kerry's
is going to go to bash Dean. However that is one reason why Dean wants to opt out of the Presidential Matching funds. We need to make sure that we have lots of money to spend (okay more then none but not as much as Bush) during April-August.

8. Money in the bank?
Trippi says Dean has about $12 Mil, we know they are spending (and it's working).

Any other Dems report cash on hand yet? I read Kerry has about $8 Mil, but not sure if that's confirmed and haven't heard about any of the others. Anyone know?
