DUers did all they could to oust McCarthyite Bachmann...
I don't know the final results, but Michele Bachmann (Minn. 6th) defeated Elwyn Tinklenberg last night. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune declares her the winner (as of 6:00 a.m. EDT} but gives no numbers.

I'm a Southerner who's never been to Minnesota, but I have always though of it as a liberal and very progressive state. It occasionally has its brief psychotic episodes (Jesse Ventura}, but it is generally forward-thinking and a deep shade of blue.

From what Minnesotan DUers have said, the 6th District (St. Cloud) has become more conservative over the past few years. Conservative is one thing; masochistic is another.

Disappointed! But I know that DUers started opening their wallets and donating to Tinklenberg practically before Hardball went to commercial after Bachmann's call for Congressional witch hunts. :sigh:

2. Michele Bachmann was first elected to the US House in 2006...
...by 8 points, and was re-elected yesterday by 4 points.

If that trend continues, then she'll be voted out in 2010 or 2012.

3. Representatives can really buck a state trend
While Louisiana is pretty red overall, it is only one or two congressional districts whacko enough to put David Duke in office. I happen to live in one of them :-( So if she represents the big suburb where all the yuppie suburban WASPs have fled, it could take quite a bit to embarrass them into dumping her.

4. Anti-American Representatives
I know of at least one anti-American in the House of Reps...and she is representing the Minnesota 6th District
