Gephardt isn't DLC - he's Anti-DLC.
Hey Yahoo! Users: Come see why Gephardt ought to be the next President of the United States!

Are you tired of the pro-business, wishy washy "new" Democrats (from the Democratic Leadership Council or DLC) that the party has been running at the top of the ticket (Clinton, Gore, Lieberman)? These sellouts are nearly as subservient to business interests and Wall Street as the Republicans. They're so busy chasing the vote of the fickle white-collar suburbanite, that they ignore the needs of the party's base: working folks! Dick Gephardt is one of the few pro-labor Democrats left. He should be our candidate for President in 2004.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gephardtforprezin2004/

Though some people say he's DLC, Repub-lite, etc., etc., Gephardt's the most pro-labor of the candidates, so he will keep the union vote in 2004! He also has plans to get our economy back and to take care of our environment.

I know, he voted for the war, but so did Kerry, Lieberman, and Edwards. Edwards is energetic, while Kerry and Lieberman are experienced. Gephardt is both energetic and experienced.

Plus, demographically, he lives in a state which Bush carried only marginally. If he's nominated, and he wins all the Gore states plus Missouri, he takes 271 electoral votes. Now, many of the battleground states from 2000, such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and the aforementioned Missouri have many union voters, so they can carry the day for Gephardt if he's nominated.

Gephardt is NOT DLC, even though he voted for the war. I disagreed with him on that, but overall, Gephardt is the best, IMO.

1. Most pro-labor?

I'd say that's Kucinich.

So does the AFL-CIO. Kucinich: 98% lifetime. Gephardt: 88% lifetime.

To Gephardt's credit, he's got a 100% in 2001 and 2002 (so far), as does Kucinich.

2. When facing off with the 0% pro-labor Administration...
...who wouldn't be. But to the credit of both Kucinich and Gephardt, they've both got strong pro-labor creds, with few blemishes on their record regarding labor and workers issues.

3. I like Gephardt
He would probably be my third choice for the nomination after Dean and Graham.

4. Gephardt Not Only Voted War, But Helped Determine 2002's Agenda
Gephardt was one of the coordinators of the year of the Me-Too. And his early agreement to Bush's demands undercut the party's attempt to negotiate the Iraq resolution. His rationale was to get it "out of the way" so the Dems could focus on the lousy economy. Not that the Dem leadership demonstrated any alternatives or demanded more reforms out of the Enron scandals or anything like that.

On the issues, Gephardt is actually not that bad. But if he plans to run the country like he did the House majority, then America might sink into the ocean.

I would not be holding my hand to my forehead if Gephardt got the bid, but he is certainly not high on my list.

7. I think Gephardt would make a good President.
I'll reiterate: I like Dean best, but Gephardt is also a good choice.

8. It is a shame
That politics are so polarized that we have ALL the great candidates running for one party against a monstrosity. The worst we have on our side is a misguided DLC theory and purity for the people that can't stop the train wreck. We used to have real trolls in the party. Now we are nitpicking and worrying about great legislators and heros.

Gephardt is a great offering for the people. I say the same about others too, but this is a good field, especially for people issues. The only misgiving is how any of them cope politically with the dark side of the Farce.

9. Anti-DLC, where did you discover this?
Edited on Thu Jul-10-03 08:47 PM by burr
Not only did Gephardt help found the DLC club for men, but he's also a member!

From a related site...
"The DLC was founded in 1985. The past chairs include former President Bill Clinton, Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, former Rep. Dave McCurdy of Oklahoma, Sen. John Breaux of Louisiana, former Sen. Sam Nunn of Georgia, former Sen. Charles Robb of Virginia and House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt of Missouri."

with his support for the Iraq War but he has impecible credentials on domestic policy and will be a true alternative to Bush.
