Kerry promises to stand up for common people

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry pledged to fight for the common man Wednesday, portraying his public career as a lifelong attempt to stand up against injustice and special interests.

Telling a crowd at St. Ambrose University in Davenport that he is more than just a résumé, the U.S. senator from Massachusetts said, “I offer my gut, I offer my heart. I offer my efforts that have sometimes taken great risks to stand up against those kinds of powerful interests that keep stealing from us the ability to deliver the full measure of our democracy.”

Kerry said the scales are tilted against the middle class, and he drew comparisons with the robber barons in the days of Teddy Roosevelt.

With four days left until the Jan. 19 caucuses, his campaign billed the speech as a major address to sum up Kerry’s candidacy, which has banked heavily on his record as a Vietnam War veteran and a legislator with experience in the halls of power.

14. You want to prove that claim.
and don't give me that crap about saying get over it. That claim is as misrepresented as Gore said he invented the internet. Prove to me that Kerry failed to support Gore in the 2000 election fiasco.

2. Because he's done such a good job lately?
I don't need Kerry to stand up for me or anyone else. Instead Kerry should be helping people stand up for themselves.

Sadly, that will just have to be a lesson learned come this summer.

3. I think the work he did to uncover government corruption was one of his
most significant contributions to this nation and to the world, yet the media barely acknowledges it. Those investigations helped bring an end to the Iran-Iraq war and the illegal wars in Central America.

I think the media stays away from BCCI and IranContra because it reminds people of Reagan-Bush corruption and they want to protect the Bush family.

6. And he hasn't done a thing since then
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 09:39 AM by mouse7
The minute John Kerry started considering running for president he started either running from all controversy, or staking claims to both sides of issues, thinking the "Kerry debate skills" will create whatever position he needs in front of that day's audience.

Well, the game's up. Kerry act has been observed and recorded.

12. You disregard the Kyoto Prtocol he worked on for 10 years?
You diregard the Hate Crimes bill he helped craft?

You disregard the CHIPS bill he helped craft?

You diregard the book he wrote to alert the American people to terror and its international funding by governments?

Go ahead and diregard Kerry's work on terror. Bush and most of Congress did. That worked out well, didn't it?

13. Great... stuff Kerry did that failed
Kyoto was a joke from the get-go with no limits on China and India on greenhouse gasses. Why do you think it was dead on arrival?

Gore, Hart and Rudman did the real work on terrorism.

CHIPS has been mostly defunded.

4. He's right about this...
“I’m asking you to measure me by a lifetime of fighting consistently for the values and principles of our party and our country,” he said, charging that others have taken positions merely for the convenience of a campaign."

8. Like Kerry declaring his defense voting record of 80's "stupid"
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 09:42 AM by mouse7
Kerry has said publically that his votes against weapons systems in the 80's was "stupid"

Kerry is trying to annihialate an entire decade of votes for the convenience of this campaign.
