Creative DUers: Need Young Dem fundraising ideas!
I know you guys (and girls) are the best, and tonight at a Young Dem meeting, we weren't getting many good ideas about fundraising.

Something that would get the attention of an apathetic student body. A catchy message :)

Thanks everyone...

2. How about a draft-themed raffle..

Complete with the metal cage and little balls a la Vietnam War era. If done right, you could have a lot of fun while at the same time educating the younger voters (and the voters with children) about what the administration is gearing up for in 2005.

Maybe you could get someone to donate something you could hand out to each young adult of draft-age to get them thinking about what a draft could do to their lives. Let them all know throughout the course of the evening about our pact with Canada, and the end of simply running north of the border. Inform them (even many of my college friends were unaware of this) that educational deferments have been almost completely scrapped, if you're of age, you'd better start worrying.

But at the same time, try to keep the mood light, maybe offer prizes like some Pretzels with a "Stay Away Bush" sticker on them, some clever t-shirts to wear around campus and get the word out that Bush '04 = Draft '05.

Also I would definitely direct them towards the easy to remember http://www.bushdraft.com , it's an easy address to remember when talking to friends about the administration's plans, and you don't have to remember all the facts for yourself ;-)

5. Thanks...
I passed out info on www.bushdraft.com tonight at our meeting. There is a great PDF poster that site has that I've been copying and distributing to college kids - it really highlights the plans for a draft.

6. an auction . . .
get donations of interesting and fun things from young Dems, their parents, and other Democrats in the community . . . get lots of unique and funky items . . . for example, I was once part of an auction for a Congressional candidate, and one of the things we did was find a half dozen local artists and asked them to each to paint a trash can in their own style . . . they sold for LOTS of money . . . same thing could be done with mailboxes, toilet seats, whatever . . . be creative, and make it FUN . . . find a local celeb or entertainer with a gift of gab for an auctioneer . . . or maybe there's a professional auctioneer in your area who's a Democrat? . . . just make sure you get someone who's fun and can keep things interesting and moving . . . sell refreshments . . . rather than rows of chairs, have the bidders sit at tables so they can munch and converse . . . have a piano player tinkle the keys during breaks . . . make it an event they'll be talking about for months! . . . good luck . . . :)
