United For Peace And Justice March in DC 1/27
I didn't see this posted else where here
------------------------------------------------------------------
Tell the New Congress:
Act NOW to Bring the Troops Home!

Join United for Peace and Justice in a massive march on Washington, D.C., on Sat., January 27, to call on Congress to take immediate action to end the war.

On Election Day the voters delivered a dramatic, unmistakable mandate for peace. Now it's time for action. On January 27, 2007, we will converge from all around the country in Washington, D.C. to send a strong, clear message to Congress and the Bush Administration: The people of this country want the war and occupation in Iraq to end and we want the troops brought home now!

Congress has the power to end this war through legislation. We call on people from every congressional district in the country to gather in Washington, DC -- to express support for those members of Congress who are prepared to take immediate action against the war; to pressure those who are hesitant to act; and to speak out against those who remain tied to a failed policy.

The peace and justice movement helped make ending the war in Iraq the primary issue in this last election. The actions we take do make a difference, and now there is a new opportunity for us to move our work forward. On Election Day people took individual action by voting. On January 27 we will take collective action, as we march in Washington, DC, to make sure Congress understands the urgency of this moment.

Join United for Peace and Justice in this crucial push for peace!

2. Excuse my ignorance sfexpat....
but what does "Chavez es America" mean?

btw...I was listening to NPR this am and they referred to Chavez as "anti-American President Hugo Chavez". Of course I had to yell at the radio that Chavez is NOT anti-American but ANTI-bU$H (like the rest of us!)

3. Well, I take it to mean that Chavez is a populist, with "America"
standing in for the people of this continent, not the United States. Of course, he is anti-Bush but as you know, our supine media parrot the "anti-American" baloney every time their paymasters need them to do that.

I miss the press or at least the press I remember which might have been an illusion. Recently I was reading NYTs stories from 'way back and you know, they've always been shills for Wall Street -- just not as blatantly as they are now.

4. Question!
Any realistic estimate on how many protestors to expect? I'd like to organize a bus to get students down to DC from my college and am doing research on this protest as I'd like to be able to give an estimate for recruiting protestors. Bashful/timid types likely feel more comfortable the bigger the protest I've noticed.

5. I havn't the sligtest clue, I'm sorry.
Maybe someone else knows, I'm not really qualified to give you a number, I'm just a high school student. What I've been doing though, when people ask about numbers, is talk about some their past protest, which usually draw 100k-500k.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

6. I support you in Spirit. god knows we Need More Protests!!
I have been screaming all year long, where are the mass demonstrations against this illegal, ill-concieved war? it makes me so depressed, to see almost nothing ggoing on in the activist community, except a few lone protesters here and there, and even here, on DU, there is almost nothing..

best wishes to you PureGonzo, and all your fellow demonstrators.
