Advice wanted.
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 08:00 AM by monarch
I'm not sure that this is the proper forum but it seems logical.

I just had my first LTTE published--a fact I learned when a reader called me this morning (fortunately, someone who agreed). It was something I just fired off without thinking about it and it occurs to me that I should have given it more thought. Is there a resource that I should consult before I press the send button on something like this? Also, how do you handle people who call. I'm concerned about the nuts. My MIL was in her late 80's when she got some pretty hateful stuff in response to a letter supporting gay rights.

Thanks. I know that this is pretty lazy of me but DUers are usually the first place I go for timely info.

1. Respond to an angry phone calll by saying "OK" after the caller's remarks.

Or something else polite.

2. I second that...
Eric J is correct.

Just say in a sincere tone, "Okay, thanks for responding. Have a good day." and hang up.

Most anyone who has the nerve to call you after seeing your name in the paper is just looking to start an argument. When they don't get the angry response they desire, it sort of takes the wind out of their sails.

Of course, YMMV. ;)

But I'd be sure to write down their calling number from the caller ID; you might need it for a harassment complaint if a caller gets too problematic.
