ACTION ALERT: Call the US Senate - Ask GOP Senators why they hate America
ACTION ALERT: Call the US Senate - Ask GOP Senators why they hate America?
Wednesday, September 14, 2005
by John in DC - 9/14/2005 10:27:00 PM

54 US Senators today KILLED legislation establishing an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate what went so horribly wrong with Hurricane Katrina.

76% of Americans want an independent bipartisan commission, like the one that investigated the 9/11 attacks, to investigate what went wrong. In fact, according to the same poll, Americans of all stripes, Republicans and Democrats, are united behind their support for such a commission (64% of all Republicans and 83% of all Democrats want a commission) even though they were aware that the Republicans in Congress are doing their own biased and partisan investigation (see below).

So why did every Republican US Senator (save the Senator from Louisiana, who simply didn't vote) vote AGAINST forming this independent, bipartisan commission to investigate what went so horribly wrong, and to find out how we avoid an even larger catastrophe the next time Osama attacks a major American city with a chemical, biological or nuclear bomb?

It's time to find out.

2. This is what I sent.
Dear Senator Martinez,

I would appreciate hearing your reasoning for voting against an independent bipartisan commission to evaluate post-Hurricane Katrina response. 76% of Americans are in favor and according to the same poll, Republicans and Democrats are united behind their support for exactly such a commission (64% of Republicans and 83% of Democrats)

Why did every Republican Senator, except the abstaining senator from Louisiana, vote against forming an independent, bipartisan commission to find out how we avoid compounding such a catastrophe the next time?

Unfortunately, such a vote conveys the impression of a lack of concern at best or disdain at worst. Perception is everything in politics and right now Republicans are being perceived as uncaring, incompetent opportunists. I hope your explanation is a rational one that conforms to the stated Republican values of compassion and security.

Regards,
_____________

3. I used some of your info and I sent this to my (R) Senators
Dear Senator Cornyn,

I would appreciate hearing your reasoning for voting against an independent bipartisan commission to evaluate post-Hurricane Katrina response. 76% of Americans are in favor of such an investigation and according to the same poll; Republicans and Democrats are united behind their support for exactly such a commission (64% of Republicans and 83% of Democrats).

Why did every Republican Senator, except the abstaining senator from Louisiana, vote against forming an independent, bipartisan commission to find out how we avoid compounding such a catastrophe the next time?

Unfortunately, your vote conveys, at best the impression of a lack of concern for the interests of the American people; or at worst, a disdain these interests. Perception is everything in politics and right now Republicans are being perceived as uncaring, incompetent opportunists. GOP partisanship apparently comes before the interests of our country and its people. GOP Party loyalty is loyal even unto death, not their own deaths mind you but the deaths of innocent people. I hope your explanation is a rational one that conforms to the stated Republican values of compassion and security. I am watching you and will expect your written explanation of the appalling decision you just made. In this past, your responses have come very slow and were "form" letters which did not address my specific concerns. In this instance, due to the seriousness of your decision, I would appreciate a faster and more direct explanation.
