Peace Train to Washington DC
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 08:24 AM by AnnInLa
If anyone out there in DU Activist Land has a blog, we at Louisiana Activist Network would appreciate a mention and linking of our site about our "Peace Train" (Amtrak) trip to DC to participate in the anti-war demonstration on Sept 24th. The train starts in New Orleans on Sept. 22nd, and makes many stops along the way where other activists can join the train:

New Orleans, LA
Meridian, MS
Tuscaloosa, AL
Birmingham, AL
Atlanta, GA
Greenville, SC
Charlotte, NC
Greensboro, NC
Lynchburg, VA
Charlottesville, VA
Alexandria, VA
Washington, DC Union Station

Cindy Sheehan will be riding the Peace Train for the whole trip to DC.

BTW, the LAN was instrumental (by getting important info to law-makers and lobbying) in getting the Louisiana Legislature to pass the country's first Depleted Uranium Testing Bill for Louisiana vets returning from the Iraqi war.

LAN was responsible for organizing the very successful "Jazz Funeral for Democracy" march/demonstration on Inaugural Day in New Orleans. New Orleans police estimate 3,000 in attendance, local press reported 500. Sigh.

2. Are any other groups doing peace trains?
We did one from NJ in the early 70s to protest the Vietnam War -- the group was led by the president of Rutgers University and there were several hundred of us. We met and lobbied NJ members of Congress.

8. We should make other 'peace trainS'

We should check the other routes and mark other trains as peace trains.

Like thru Kansas and on into Chicago and to the east.

Not just one peace train

PEACE TRAINS !!!

9. Well, it seems that Louisiana Activist Network is officially Communist
This is the graphic from the article below:

www.frontpagemag.com.....((The whole article is worth a laugh...there are commies everywhere, everywhere. I didn't know people like this still existed!))

Communists Against the Military
By Ben Johnson
FrontPageMagazine.com | July 14, 2005

A coalition of far-Left organizations that includes avowed “revolutionary communists,” Islamists, marriage-abolitionists, and cop-killer advocates has launched a crusade against the U.S. military – and San Francisco school children could get caught in the crossfire. An organization known as “College Not Combat” seeks to place a resolution before Bay City voters on the November ballot, declaring “that the people of San Francisco oppose U.S. military recruiters using public school, college and university facilities to recruit young people into the armed forces.” The non-binding measure would encourage the city’s high schools to deny military recruiters access to their student directories, from which recruiters attempt to find new volunteers. Such an action, undertaken in the name of “the children,” would constitute a violation of section 9528 of the “No Child Left Behind” Act and could end up denying the offending schools access to government funds.

The group submitted petitions containing more than15,000 signatures to the Department of Elections on Monday, nearly 5,000 more than needed. If enough signatures are validated, the measure will be placed before voters. In part, the draft declares:

a de facto “economic draft” forces tens of thousands of low and middle-income students to join the military in order to get money to go to college or get job or technical training…

the Federal government shows no sign of ending the occupation of Iraq or bringing the troops safely home and, in fact, is threatening military action against other nations...

San Francisco should oppose the military’s “economic draft” by investigating means by which to fund and grant scholarships for college and job training to low-income students so they are not economically compelled to join the military!

big snip....lists all of the peace organizations, local union chapters, teacher organizations, and then this:

# Louisiana Activist Network – A radical “antiwar” organization that reproduces a quotation from revolutionary Emma Goldman on its frontpage and links to Lyndon LaRouche’s political organization on its “friends” page.

((You guys have got to go read this article...it is amazing....and LAN is honored to be included in such good company!))
